The voting public (predominantly female) don't like attractive young women either - Emma Bunton, Rachel Stevens, Kelly Brooks, Lisa Snowdon...now Ali Bastion.
Again.... Alesha!

I think he will, and why shouldn't he? He's a great dancer and great to watch.

Now that Zoe and James are out , He could very well get my votes. Their QS last night was faultless, good luck to them.

I also think it's Natalie, rather than Ricky, that's the problem. I've no problem with someone being competative - adored Denise, Ramps and Austin, all sports people, all competative, I've no problem with them being pretty good from show 1 (Austin), but I have to like the partnership, see the fun and links they build, and I'm just not getting that here, and I think it's Natalie, I just cannot warm to her at all, and the partnership strikes me more as a business partnership, rather then a friendship. However, I am being won over by Jade and Ian

Ricky W's quickstep was way too overmarked imo, and I really really don't like Natalie - she is far too cocky and cocksure.

I think Ricky's lovely. He's obviously not as exuberant as Natalie or as shy as Ali, but his quiet excitement is infectious and I adore watching him dance.

However by way of comparison it is Katya that I cannot take to, she comes across to me as very focused on self promotion and I cannot help suspect she's less than thrilled that she's been given a reasonably competent but not outstanding partner in Phil. My position here may be no more or less logical than that taken towards Natalie and Ricky by others, though.
I personally think that Katya is doing a great job with Phil. He's a self confessed lazy bones but when you look at what he does, he's actually not that bad. I mean, look at Natalie Cassidy - does at least double the training consistently gets the same marks. Katya's point with Phil (and she's not been afraid to tell him this week) is that IF he just puts a few more hours in which the other couples seem to be doing, he could get himself a 9 or maybe even a 10. I don't think Katya is all for herself at all. Her reaction to Phil was 'look what we've got, that's great'. Did you see ITT on Thursday with the training update? He'd done 8.5 hours up until that point with some couples doing double or more including Ali and Jade and even Craig. Now let's look at it.

Phil 30 = Natalie C

Craig - 6, Ricky G - 1, Chris - 3??,

Zoe +2

Ali and Laila + 3

Jade + 5

Ricky W +9

See what Katya means? He COULD be up there with Ali, Laila (esp in ballroom) and Jade (in both disciplines) WITH a few hours more training. Even Len's kind of disappointed with him this week because that Tango could have been even better and I think even Phil is starting to realise that now.

Do you really think Ali is the most attractive of those left? I find exotic Jade arresting and lovely Laila also more eye catching.

Even Alesha was in the dance off. I still think attractive females have a hard job winning over the public. Without the judges neither Rachel or Lisa would have made the final.

I didn't say Ali was the most attractive. Jade has been in the dance off. I see Ali as this series's Emma Bunton. The dislike of Emma was irrational.

I don't think looks have anything to do with it. What many women dislike are wet, wimpy, simpery women - they like other women to have a bit of chutzpah.

Rightly or wrongly, the five women you cited, Spinaker, have all been awarded accolades in the wimpy simpery spectrum!

I didn't think see any of them that way. Both Kelly and Lisa are pretty feisty and there was nothing wimpy about Ali last night.

Because in Britain you're not allowed to be good at something and popular.... the two don't go together.
Yep.

The voting public (predominantly female) don't like attractive young women either - Emma Bunton, Rachel Stevens, Kelly Brooks, Lisa Snowdon...now Ali Bastion.
And yep.

I'd include the two Zoes as well. Zoe Ball should have been in the final with Colin (instead of sweet but mediocre Darren) & Zoe Lucker didn't deserve to go last night.

The only woman to really buck the trend has been Alesha.

I think Ricky seems like a nice guy and I do like him. But I agree, I don't look forward to his dances much....he is enjoyable to watch obviously but I think it's because it's so predictable that he'll be amazing each week. I look forward to seeing Ali dance a lot more than I do Ricky.

The people I look forward to are Ricky, Ali, Jade & Zoe ( )

Ricky really pulled it out of the bag last night. I hope it gives him the confidence to put that much into all his following dances.

Your post stated quite clearly that you believe the "irrational" dislike of some females is directly related to their youth and appearance.

I think the failure to achieve popularity of those you mention, was based on what many perceived as overmarking.

I never inferred that ALL women see them that way - simply that there is a strong element amongst their detractors who do, and that - for me - accounts for their relative unpopularity (if it exists!) amongst female voters.

The original point made is it women don't like attractive women. I say that's rubbish.

Zoe was a superb dancer and on ability alone should have made the final and possibly: but the public perceived her to be overmarked. She clung to Ian like a limpet and some found the 'luvviness' cloying.

IMO one of the reasons Alesha did so well unlike Lisa & Kelly was the fact she was partnered with Matt

I can't agree with this - I do think that the public vote for the celeb though some would say not always for the right reasons.

Matthew is deservedly popular, but his popularity didn't save him from going out first this year.

I know some regard Brendan as a liability, but when he gets the right celeb his SCD partnerships are as good as anyone's; the friendship he formed with Jo this year kept them in far longer than Jo's dancing ability warranted.

I think people just CAN'T forgive him for not being a bad dancer. He's good - how DARE he?!
No, that's not it for me. I just can't take to them at all. Too earnest, maybe?
