Anyway with the 'Red Button' feeds being cut back on freeview and no sign of them coming anytime soon to Freesat and various other annoyances with the platform I have finally given up on Freesat.

I'm off down the Sky HD+ route and it's here next Sunday.

I'll keep the single feed Freesat box as a spare room box but the PVR will be on a well known auction site this week.

It hasn't all been bad though and I'll miss the 'where's the update' threads

I can now go the Sky forum and see the 'new EPG broke my box' threads instead!

If anyone wants to purchase a reasonably priced, used, Humax PVR, Boxed, VGC etc then offers on a PM please to the above username.

I'll let you have the regular monthly thread back now to discuss it's whereabouts.

Will be interesting to see how you get on after 12 months worth of use SKY HD.

I have to say I love the platform and my HDR and feel sorry for those that have issues with the service and or hardware. I came from Sky about 3 months ago but only had the basic non + or HD services, and only having SKY Sports as an add on channel. It was about £40 a month and so far I am glad of the £40 in my pocket. You mention the other red button services etc so maybe it's more down to using the Freesat to it's extremes, in so much as all the extras like interactive, red button feeds, subtitles etc etc that make some frustrated and others that just switch it on and watch and don't bother much with the extras (i realise they should work if they are there) Maybe that's causing the conflict of "I love mine - I hate mine debates and comments"

I just could not get on with SKY once anything went wrong and it hurt (financially and time) to spend so much time on the phone trying to get sense.

I get the feeling that you will somehow be back particularly one you have to contact SKY over any issues!

I love mine but I'm still annoyed at the way Humax have behaved.

The worst conflict seems come when people who are happy with their box start telling people who aren't to stop complaining.

That invariably leads to a more or less heated argument and so seems entirely counter productive (unless the people doing it are trying to generate more anti-Humax posts ).

I'm not demanding but I'd be interested in when the next one is out......

As for Sky VS HDR - I have both and they both got pros and cons and other than the 'cant delete while recording' it does what it says on the tin.

Well, for the record, I really like my humax HDR box, just as I did the Foxsat-HD before it. I am however irked by the fact there are still some faults/bugs/features whatever you want to call them, which have not yet been resolved.

I have always been a loyal Humax customer, ever since buying a Freeview HDR box from them, but I consider waiting this long to have the faults/bugs/features put right to be absolutely inexcusable and very poor customer service.

Considering the reputation of a company like humax lives or dies by the quality of their products and their customer service it amazes me that they've taken so long to rectify the problems people have reported to them over and over again. Even announcing a date when the update will be released would be a step in the right direction.

As for iplayer, well its a feature I can quite happily live without (tho i am very interested to see how it works on freesat) and cant help but feel that the priority for humax should really have been to fix what they already have before working on adding new stuff to it.

Anyway, at least we know an update IS being worked on, even if we have no idea of when it will see the light of day. Come on humax, keep your customers informed of what's going on....please. Is that an un-reasonable request?

I've kept quiet up until now but my patience for an upgrade is now running out. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with the box but there are clearly and unsurprisingly some niggles that could probably be sorted out:
1. can't delete while recording
2. the recording schedule is not power-cut proof
3. annoying delays & unresponsiveness when searching through the guide
This is not enough for me to throw my hands in horror and switch to another box, but I might think twice about my next purchase of this sort of gear since Humax can't be bothered to make the necessary corrections within a reasonable time-frame.

I bought one of these in Augst this year back in England(I now live in Spain) I connected it nicely on saturday and was really impressed - FOR A WHILE !.... Now it seems, having read some forum contributions, that I may be one of the 'losers' since the box decided to go off after a few hours and refuse to come back on(apart from the window light). Not to admit defeat I left the box overnight unplugged and inert and was more than pleased to see it boot up nicely the next day! However I now class myself as a 'chicken counter' since it quickly decied to re-boot - then again and again and again etc etc - then finally it went back to the window with no sign of a boot since. OK - these things happen so now I try to contact Humax through their 'techincal support 'PREMIUM' charge number - nope - not available from Spain or outside the UK it seems. How about all you Humax experts giving this 'beginer' the 'low-down' on how to get this sorted before the cheery smile drips off my face ? Regards Chris:yawn:

But heh - at least you know that things aren't all that more fantastic on the Sky front. I lost an episode of Fringe last night because my box went off into la-la land. It doesn't happen often but it does happen

Yes, I realise all is not chocolate on the old Sky box front occasionally, but at the moment it is the only 'complete' platform out there in my eyes.

I realise though that some people will disagree with me, but, Red Button Services, Text Services, more interactivity, not having to swap modes to watch other free stuff (and losing a whole recording schedule whilst having to re-scan for the free stuff!), some other general annoyances (for me anyway) have led me down this way of thinking.

I'll keep the single feed box up and running in one of the bedrooms and sell the PVR, as if in the future I fall out with Sky and need a new box the market will have moved on anyway.

I have a PVR 9200 and a Panny DVD/HD freeview combo as well so if I feel anything is that important I'll set up a backup recording.

I'm not going to knock Freesat (maybe I just have?), it just hasn't grown and evolved quickly enough for my liking, I don't agree with a lot of Sky policies but I'm not going to knock them either. It's all about choice and a £5K a year pay rise has probably helped me make that choice! If the extra money wasn't available then maybe I would not have been so quick to leave and would have plodded on with Freesat waiting for the improvements that have been on the horizon for a long time but never forthcoming.

For now, at least, it's a change of viewing platform for me.

Well I have had enough too. But I am not going back to Sky. I am waiting for Freeview HD instead. Everyone I know has Freeview without all the hassle I get with this 'effort'. Better pq with Freeview anyway.

Hopefully not long to wait now, then it will be "so long Humax- thanks for nothing".

The BBC is telling me to do some "extreme" freesat-ing every five minutes on BBC One!

I suppose when you had an analogue TV, pressing the "text" button was a bit too much like living on the edge - a bit too wild?

Since when did comments need to be positive ? This is a forum and almost by definition people will come here with their problems mainly.

The comment is a valid one about red button it is your comment and mine that are not as worthy.

I dropped Sky HD last xmas in favour of the humax. I must admit I am considering going back to sky in the new year - mainly because of the few things on sky 1 that I miss. Also, the lack of HD channels on humax is starting to get annoying - no C4 HD and no sign of it ever coming to freesat.
Once I get to the new year they will let me take advantage of new customer deals again.
But, the updates (the point of this thread). I've also stayed out of the discussion... Up to now. I think I was one of the lucky ones and don't suffer the faults with the box. Deleteing is marginally annoying but there are usually enough gaps in my recording to delete what I need to. Folder management is more annoying. Remote control directionality (if there is such a word) is a pain. But all of this together would not in itself make me think this is a poor product or have me baying for the update. I feel for those with serious problems but most of the niggles are minor and outweigh the weekly reset I used to have to do with Sky.

The update for the Humax WILL NOT put any more HD channels on the HDR.

You should have pushed Sky a bit more before you left. They offered me a free box (which is strange because I already had a Sky HD + box) and half price HD channels for 6 months with no commitment to further subscriptions.

I am well aware of that. The point of the post was that there are other reasons for moving back to Sky but the firmware is not one of them (there are not enough issues with the firmware for it to even be a minor annoyance for me, let alone a reason to drop freesat).
