Sorry for grumping, but what the heck are the Beeb doing to this show ??

Last night, my ears were literally ringing when the show ended.

Throughout the entire show we had to listen to female screamers 'WOOO'ing' like howler monkeys on helium imitating a fairground siren
And the clapping was so constant it was driving me nuts. It sounded like someone munching a bag of crisps in my ear, only louder and even more ruddy annoying. Ali and Brian's dance was practically unwatchable. I had to mute it and it made no sense without the music. But you can't even hear the music anymore on this show.

I am most unhappy after settling down in anticipation of a (much needed) wonderfully relaxing evening of dance and spectacle - only to spend two hours yelling Shut Upppp fgs!! It actually hurts, and I'm only 41 so I can't blame my age. Why are they winding up the crowd and spoiling it for the viewers? It may create a good atmosphere in the studio but omg, it does not sit well in my lounge.

I may have to switch off if this carries on ! And I love Strictly

they clapped the whole way through Craig's dance and i thought fgs shut it and just watch the dance you suckers!

The SCD audience doesn't annoy me at all, compare them to the X Factor audience and they're fine.

I'm completely with you on this! I noticed last night's show was worse than I'd known it before for the S* Factor (*Scream). And that is the problem I think....that the BBC is trying to compete with that other programme on at the same time. It's a huge mistake to mess too much with the SCD formula and turn it into a version of Mr Cowell's show.

I daresay the audience are being whipped into a hysterical frenzy by floor managers and it's probably not their fault entirely. Such a shame. It really was intolerable.

The audience only annoy me when they're really quiet and don't seem to appreciate the dances they have seen. (Especially in the case of the pro dances.) I actually preferred them last night to other weeks, as they got into the show a lot more. Dancers feed off the atmosphere in a room so I prefer a loud crowd. I usually find in pro comps that the louder the crowd is, the better the dancing is. That's why people cheer for the couples and the audience is encouraged to get involved.

The high-pitched screaming and clapping through the dances isn't ideal, I agree, but it doesn't bug me that much.

Last nights audience was particularly bad there were some screamers up on the balcony. That combined with the bloody annoying clapping during the dances is driving me nuts.

^^ This. Also, the DWTS audience are rather vocal, which is (part of the reason) why I prefer SCD.

Everyone who's been to the live show reports that they are told to behave like that. Don't blame the audience.

Must say I don't notice extraneous noise.
Anything that smothers the ritual cat-strangling is good in my book.

Watching Phil's tango again on the PC, I was actually surprised by the raucous noise coming from the crowd (well OK, maybe just his wife) as I hadnt noticed it at all when watching it live on tv.

I'm sure part of me noticing it second time around was the fact I was watching it in isolation, but probably also has a lot to do with the different quality of sound I get from my PC speaker system.

I wouldnt suggest anyone replace a tv simply because the noise of the audience annoys them during one show, but it might be worth tinkering with watching on another set or playing sound through a music system if it bothers you that much.

I've gotten used to the clapping but the constant screaming in last nights show got on my nerves.

The noisy audience last night was very distracting. I had to mute the sound several times.

Perhaps they are trying to drown out the awful singers?

Last night was the first time it really annoyed me. I can sort of forgive the dodgy clapping (usually) but all the shrieking and shouting was unnecessary. It has to stop.

It annoyed me a bit last night as well. But I watched a bit of X Factor after Strictly and the crowd on that really irritated me, the judges have to shout over them at times.

I too wish that the audience was more restrained, and cut out the bear-pit booing (which, let's face it, is just not acceptable). And none of the shrieking please.

Funny that. I also noticed it more than usual, and also seemed worse when I watched it again on iPlayer. Can't bear the clapping along, almost as bad as the 'spontaneous' burst of applause about 5 seconds into each dance.

There is a drummer and a percussionist in the band, they play some pretty intricate stuff that gets drowned out by the clapping.

It can't help the dancers either, do they dance in time with the band or the audience?

I was there it was a great night. We were told to be like that and yes there was a very vocal lady but she was encouraged to be like that from the start. Bruce said it was the best audience for a long time and all the dancers seemed to like it.

Ali and Brian and Zoe and James both had non-stop clapping and wooing throughout their entire performances -and both ended up in the danceoff.

My God, what a miserable lot, when I've been at Strictly in the past I've BEEN one of those annoying people you put on mute. What's the point if you're going to sit there and half heartedly clap at the end of every performance. Everytime I've been, I'm aware I'm bloody lucky to be sat in the audience and am going to make the most of it. What's wrong with some enthusiasm?

just goes to show that Jeremy Vine on Points of View is a complete and utter liar, saying its the audience who clap of their own accord when its clearly the tv staff forcing people to!

There were a couple of memorably miserable-looking munters sitting in the front row on stage just behind Forsyth. That meant they were in most shots just over his right shoulder. It offered a Brechtian contrast to the screams and cheers.

There is a huge difference between clapping enthsiasically at the right times and howling/screaming like monkeys at feeding time at the zoo. If I want that sort of crowd I can watch X-factor
