I hate them and I'm not the only one.
I don't remember them being so prevalent in previous series.

What do peeps think and which has been the worst offender?

I am starting to agree - I've hated them all this series, even the darling Team Cola's cha cha.

I have to say I think Zoe and James's samba was the worst offender, because she was definitely capable of a proper samba with some real content, and she got a tacky arse-wiggle-based mess from James.

By contrast, Anton and Laila's samba probably saved us from a far worse car crash...

It's definitely the sambas that have suffered the most there - but they've pretty much all been done to disco music so who's making that choice?

I think the cha cha rhythm is complimented by most true disco tracks but like Len don't like to see too many disco moves in there. It doesn't really go that well with samba or other fast latin dances imo.

I like disco.
It's probably my age.

I LOVE disco - but I don't expect to see moves from the World Disco Dancing Championships (once televised by ITV, if I recall) cluttering up latin routines in Strictly.

I don't know if James and Ola spent last Sunday morning with 'The Best Disco Album In The World ... Ever!' but they were both stupid to go so disco crazy. A bit more samba/cha cha cha content and they might have scored a few extra points - which in Zoe's case could maybe have prevented her exit ... who knows?

but WHY did the judges seem to let Zoe and James get away with it in the marking and yet slam Anton and Laila for it?

I like disco too. However, I think they should just do the hustle as per DWTS rather than dance disco whilst trying to pretend they are dancing latin!

I seem to remember Ricky and Natale's Salsa was pretty disco based as well (and I hated it)

well there is nothing wrong with using disco music for latin (esp with kids ) many disco tracks are good cha's BUT in the show it is the routines that are at fault if the music is played at the right tempo for the dance the there should not be a problem.

Worst offender for me last night was the Cha Cha from Ola I kept looking for some actual cha cha steps. The Samba from James did Zoe no service at all and of course Laila had too much disco steps in her routine (though very old style disco I may add)

Yeah I'm with you I like it in the cha-cha for the song, you get the odd one that works for a jive. The only think that annoys me more than disco based sambas are disco based salsas.

Alesha did both in her series, Gethin and Kelly both did disco sambas, I think Matt Di's was disco based because of the song but who knows. Can't remember any last year, possibly Lisa's? Series 4 were all proper sambas that I remember. This year does seem to be worse.

I was suprised at Zoe's because I remember Gabby's being proper samba to proper samba music Darren Bennett said it looked like a pro samba (it was better than's Penny's country effort).
