Sorry to start a thread to ask this, but I can't seem to find out when the Dance-Off finishes, and when it is down to the public vote alone?

Anybody help?

I'm not sure about previous series (i've only watched SCD from Series 5), but usually it's only in the final that there is no DO (except last year, it didn't occur in the semis cos of the whole tied score thing).

I think it finishes in the quarter finals. It did in the year Alesha won it...

are you sure? Cos I remember Alesha being in the DO with Letitia Dean for the quarter finals and then Matt Di Angelo and Gethin Jones being in the DO for the semis? I might be wrong though - the weeks tend to merge into one for me

That's really depressing.

Thanks all for your replies ...

In the past it has gone right to and including semi final.

I think there were some mutterings this year about it stopping in the quarters but I'm not sure if that was ever official. It would be in the rules on the BBC site.

Quote:
“Originally from http://www.bbc.co.uk/strictlycomedan...t/voting.shtml

From the quarter-final, there will be a main live show where the remaining celebrities and their partners will dance for the judges scores and the audience votes. The voting lines will open once all remaining couples have danced their routines. An announcement will be made to that effect during the live programme. Later that same night, there will be a live results show, where the audience voting results and the combined scores will be announced. The bottom two scoring couples will go into a dance-off as per the rules above.”

It looks as though it will be through to the semis this year as well.

It seems to me then that the judges can pretty much pick the final they want to see from the start, certainly if their favourites don't clash in any dance-off.

Rather devalues the public input.

It really is.

I wished it stopped at the quarter final stage there is no point the judges repeatedly putting people through whom the public are not voting for.....Snowdonia/Stevens for example.

Whilst I would agree .....I will never forgive them for putting Austin out over Lisa......the new scoring system has been brought in to try and give the public more power and we saw that in spades on Saturday . Craig RH said on Breakfast this morning that he expected Zoe to get to the semi final at least so the judges didnt manage that one.

What gets me is that the power in the dance off is entirely in Len's hands.

Because of the voting set up it doesn't matter if the other 3 judges are split 2 - 1 or 1 - 2 because Len's final vote carries all the weight. He can make it 3 - 1 or 2 - 2 but whichever way he votes his choice goes though.

The only way the other judges could beat him is to vote 3-0.

The only difference this year is that from the quarter finals there will be five judges so it will be impossible to tie the dance off vote

The fifth judge being Darcey Bussell?

Agree with you on this. I posted about this yesterday.

There would be complaints 'left, right and centre' if Bruce said at the start of the 'dance off' scoring "In the event of anything other that a 3-0 grand slam from the other judges, Len pick the winner"

It does seem crazy when put in those terms.

No, it didn't.

There was the ridiculous quarter-final, where Matt forgot half his steps, got sympathy votes and Alesha was in the dance-off with Letitia. And then the semi-final, where Gethin was doomed because Matt had scored 40 for his waltz.

There should be 3 or 5 judges, that way Len would not have to make the final decision. Or in the case of a draw should it go back to the public vote as in X Factor?

Well at some point quite soon there will be 5 judges as Darcey is joining the panel for the later stages.

I read your post Quizmike, but I think others missed it.

Personally I think the dance off should stop when they start doing two dances a week. I would settle for the quarter finals, but it looks like Darcey on the panel is what we are getting.

I thought that Darcey was standing in for Craig rather than being an extra judge but I may well be wrong about that

I'm pretty sure that Darcy will become a fifth judge. The reason I think this is that I distinctly recall the designer on ITT explaining how there is a new judges' desk this year, especially built so it could accomodate an extra bod when Darcy joins.

There were rumours that Craig might be replaced part way through - but I'm guessing that was idle speculation. Or mischief-making!

But presumably he still will if the judges are tied 2-2. If he's left until last still, his vote will be the deciding one.
