Will they plug straight in I only see input on the pic of the back panel. Maybe that's ok, noob here with things like this

isnt there a headphone socket on the side?

other than that... it is possible to get something that connects to the scart socket and extracts the sound from there.

It's too late to go and look whether there is a headphone socket but I can't see one on the pdf manual, have a look tomorrow.

Well I have two of those free, it has built in freeview so is only connected with coax and hdmi to the PS3.
What (how powerful) speakers can you run from the headphone socket ?.

Considering how much you have to spend something like this may be suitable. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Z523-Speak...item2c51821e80

You'd have to get a SCART to phono cable to interface to your TV.

I just did a very quick Google to find the sort of thing you need, I suggest you take a longer look. Search for "active speakers" and the like. You are not going to get high quality sound for £60 but something like that should be better than your TV speakers (I guess, I can't say I've heard anything like that to compare).

That would give you the connector you need (3.5mm) but you will need to buy "active speakers" to go with that, you cannot power speakers from either a SCART or headphone socket (if you had one).

You could consider something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LG-2-1-DVD-Hom...item335660fea8

Although it has a DVD player built in it does apparently have audio inputs. Alternatively you could wait a while, save your pennies and get a home cinema that would better match your PS3 Blu-ray capability - and a lot more people will be able to give you better advice (I'm out of my depth here not having ever looked at this end of the market).

You do look to be very limited on audio outputs on the TV - the only one I see you could use is the audio stripped out from scart.

Seeing you have a PS3 you really need something to take advantage of the audio provided here.

Entry model systems are available from around £250, like the Onkyo TXSR-507, this will give you HD audio from bluray. You should also be able to feed the audio from the TV via scart/phono to the unit as well.

Speaker packages start from around £68 for the Yamaha NSP110.

Another alternative is the Onkyo HTX22HD, this does away with the receiver, everything connects to the sub, it also gives you HD audio from blueray, you should also be able to connect the TV to it as well.

It comes as a 2.1 system but you can buy additional speakers to make it a full 5.1 system when the time comes.

All systems are more than your allocated budget, my advice would be to save up a bit more and get something more substantial and up to the job.

If you want a pair of dirt cheap but good sounding active speakers then the Berhinger MS16's take a lot of beating.

http://cpc.farnell.com/behringer/ms1...air/dp/LS02108

45 quid (ish) for a remarkably decent speaker. They have inputs on Phono or 3.5mm stereo jack which should mate up with just about anything.

Plus if you fancy a bit of karaoke they have a Mic input.

But you will have to look long and hard to find a pair of "computer" speakers at similar money that can beat them for sound quality. And you save a couple of quid on your budget as well, can't be bad

What I was thinking of was the scart to 3.5mm Jack and these speakers. Is that all I would need ?.

@ Deacon1972 , yes some of that stuff is out of my price range, anything really would be an improvement on the tinny built in ones. Will the hdmi cable from the ps3 to the TV not provide good sound.

The audio will only sound as good as the onboard sound system used in the TV - they are generally pretty poor.

This is why so many who are after better sound quality opt for an external sound system.

If you are that strapped for cash, have a look on Ebay, some real bargains on there.

17hrs left - no bids....

6hrs to go £41....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Denon-AVR-1601...item27ac9aa371

Plenty of other choices.

Good place to source the speakers too.

Thanks, it is only for the kid's bedroom so I'm not looking for Hi-Fi just an improvement on what is there at the moment which is tinny and almost a complete lack of bass.

PS ..... thanks for links.

They should work though I'm not sure about the sound quality, I would think they would be an improvement over your TV's speakers though I can't say I've ever heard anything similar to compare.

One thing to note is that there is no remote volume control on these so any adjustment will be manual (which did serve us for years). Altering the TV's volume will not alter the level out of the SCART and you don't have a headphone socket.
