Just a thought but with the advent of Freeview HD channel 302 is closed. And given the cavalier attitude to anything that is not MoTD or Robbie Williams repeated for the 30th time there is not much hope for MotoGP next Race (let alone all next year)

So has anyone got a crystal ball that can see the likelihood of a PVR with a fast enough processor and HDD to record a complete multiplex? And dare we consider the size of the HDD? Or the cost?

I am sure they are on manufacturers' wish lists.
I can cope with Freeview or Freesat. & I don't need Blueray.

Just a thought, anyone KNOW?

It's already here. A topfield with the appropriate TAP can record a complete mux. You need lots of disc space though

I have to ask, what is it about MotoGP that means you want to record a whole mux? (I have no interest in MotoGP at all so know nothing about how or when it is broadcast).

recording the whole MUX gets you to the red button. On satellite I see no way to get at the individual streams to record and there could be 4 of the extras.

On terrestial there was a way to get at the extra streams via 301, 302, 303, and 305. Sport was on 301/302. With no 302 that leaves 301. The BBC advertise on air and post EPG information that is at best wrong. I needed to record the main tx and the other two in hope of gauranteeing getting what I want.

Sport is notoriously weather prone. The tx moves around because they can't interrupt football or Robbie Williams (30th repeat) so the poor relation gets less than enough time at best. Then they switch to BB2 or BB3 because it rained. Or the 31st repeat of RW is due so they cut it off.

MotoGP has three sequential elements. Two of which are less popular so get very patchy coverage and don't get iPlayer tx.

Now the real question. Which Topfield Model has the HDD bandwidth? Their website does not explicitly state which model can record the whole MUX and I can't see a TAP wot does it.

Mr Red C Eng MIEE

I program in VBA VB6 JavaScript and have done C++, Fortran, BASIC and numerous machine code levels but MIPS - never. A big learning curve for something that probably exists in some form already.

I can't say I have tested it though

When it first came out it caused some excitement in Australia (The home of the first Topfield pvrs)

You could also look at a PC solution. For example, DVBViewer has an option to open a whole transponder which allows you to record different channels from that transponder simultaneously on one tuner.

Not sure which TAP site you are looking at, but www.toppy.org.uk is definately in English. Not sure how much storage you need but a lot of toppy users have successfully upgraded their machines with terrabyte disc drives.

It's not that hard to estimate taking the info here for instance

http://dtt.me.uk/mux/Multiplex_1

This gives an average bitrate of 3.2 Mbits/sec for 4 channels. So for 1 hrs recording this will produce 3.2 * 4 * 60 mbits = 768 mbits. This equates 768/8 Mbytes so around 100Mb per hour of recording.
