Rachel has been given a huge platform to show her talent, just like Jenifer Hudson was. It's up to her how she capitalises on it, but she's got a significant advantadge over the average unknown female singer trying to break into the music industry. .”

God I hate this term plenty of ''good black females'' singers. Shall we write off Lucie and Stacey's chances of success because there are plenty of 'Good white female'' singers. Nobody ever uses this line when it comes to white female singers. It doesnt really matter how many good white or black singers there are it doesnt mean that they shouldnt bother. The music industry is all about taking chances, there isnt an imaginary quota for certain types of singers. Labels sign artists all the time. They dont say sorry we wont even bother with you because we already have enough people like you already. Why do new singers in the same genre come out every year if the quota was alreay filled.

No one knows what to do with an indie black chick; I am a black girl who loves indie music and would much rather sing with a band if I could sing than become a R&B clone.
I don't get the issue with Rachel's personality. She always came across as professional and a hard worker. The whole of the X-factor house seemed to love her, especially the boys so she couldn't have been a cow. I saw Laura White on BBC Breakfast, and she said Rachel was one of her best friends. In fact, Lucie seems a lot more cold and aloof than Rachel and I do like Lucie.

I would've loved for Rachel to sing Piece of My Heart by Janis Joplin.

Have to agree - Rachel is an ok singer in a bad year - she is nowhere near Jennifer in terms of talent ... Have to feel sorry for her - she started out looking great then was subjected to a Danni-style makeover which left as lamb dressed as mutton

This is what I'm talking about. Rachel is that type of singer. She's not a super-perfect vocal powerhouse. She's not the R&B "diva" everyone expected her to b because of her skin color. She could be singing Coldplay or Janis Joplin....none of these people are pitch perfect vocalists, and Rachel doesn't have to be either if she's in that direction. She should be marketed as an idosyncratic singer with a good voice, because she ain't an R&b diva.

I think she could even front a band like La Roux. People need to think outside the box with this girl. Which they couldn't manage on the show.

I like Rachel and she's probably my favourite act from this year but I can't see her following Jennifer Hudson's footsteps. J Hud is a far better singer, even when she was on Idol years ago she was far better.

But she could be in the same place as Laura White next year. Or maybe even Maria Lawson. Maybe they are better examples to use than J Hud. I wish Rachel the best though.

i don't think that the OP is comparing her to jennifer hudson(i posted something similar on another thread) in terms of vocal ability, but in the possibility of being successful after being knocked out so early..i really don't know where these vocal comparisons came from.

No offense. But in retrospect, look at the limited media coverage Rachel had compared with the two bland singers in her category. She never had the chance to shine at all.
I will continuously state this Rachel is stellar in terms of talent when it comes to singing.
When Whitney, Robbie and the Buble guy showed the compliments, who garnered the majority. And those were the edited broadcasts shown.

You make some great observations!
I love all genres of music and I like to 'think out of the box' when it comes to my singing and overall creativity.
At the end of the day, Danni didn't know what to do with her, how to style how, what songs to chose for her. Additionally, her media coverage was minimal next to Stacey and Lucie.
As I said before, Rachel will shine. She's still young and will have lots of things to learn with her craft. But she's still got time to grow in her voice and be in control of who she is and her creativity

No, the people who voted on X Factor for the young boys didn't warm to her. Many people who are not tone deaf thought she was good and can only improve with proper guidance.

But the difference between her and La Roux is that she can sing. La Roux can't. She's just 'flavor of the month' at the moment.

Quite! As you say a lot of people did warm to her and she was the house fav here in Chez Lurker... me and the OH like more alternate music than the XF caters to and we thought she was great at the early stages but felt that the poor girl was packaged inappropriately for XF.

I hope Rachel does the best out of this years crop. It would be hilarious. Considering the top 8 are diabolical.
