Samsung LED TV New Generation Television - Your Views
I went into a Currys store yesterday in search of this new 'species' of television after seeing the advertisements on television. Well it lived up to expectations, at just approx 2cm thick and 17kg in weight, LED technology is said to be the closest we are going to get to the ultimate O-LED technology for the next few years, well talking about affordability aswell.
But i was wondering, what they were showing on the screen was the promo trailer for the television with intense CGI etc to sell it, but has anyone seen regular viewing on it (like tv programmes and HDTV) and most of all Blu-ray movies on it? Do you own one? If so give me your views. Thanks

My friend has one with their PS3 and Sky+ HD hooked up. Blu-Ray looks stunning on it (fantastic contrast and smooth movement). HD is also noticeably improved over my LG set, with the picture more vibrant and involving.

led alone isn't magic.
many are just side lit models that don't improve the picture much if at all. mostly it does get slimness. many high color gamut monitors are actually fluorescent backlight based still. if the leds are in arrays all over you can have local dimming but much of that is beta at this point and doesn't work right all the time. also the density of the arrays matters, you aren't going to get a good dense backlight array cheap. then theres rgb led which is the real improvement in picture quality but almost no tvs have that..the ones that do cost a bundle. |

I have one and I think its fantastic.
Monsters Inc and The Dark Knight on Blu Ray just look simply stunning. Ive got Wii hooked up too, but noticed a bit of lag so had to engage Game mode which fixed the issue but slightly looses picture quality. A fiddle around with the settings and I soon got it looking pretty good(well as much as Wii will dish out anyway). SD content looks good, but some tweaking of the settings that are available on the net soon got SD content looking great. In my opinion its well worth the money spent. |

They're so thin, I have a six series 'rose red' Samsung and that nearly broke my back getting it onto the table.
These LED ones look like frisbees.

You need to bear in mind that other manufacturers make similar LED backlit LCD TV's - but they don't mis-advertise them as LED TV's. Samsung have been reprimanded over their mis-leading adverts by the ASA and forced to stop it.

I have a 6 series LCD turning up today - I read a few reviews of them and according to a couple of them the black level and picture quality is not far off that of the LED sets for about £300 less. know a guy with one of the LED models and yes it is nice and thin and pretty but as I won't be able to tell the difference between the 2 pix without professional testing kit I couldn't justify the extra ££. Still get all the Internet@TV stuff and other toys the LED one has.

They have Nigel but I bet Sony are kicking thereselves or rather their marketing dept. for not doing it, it's given a massive increase in sales for Sammy, something Sony could do with right now. Not saying it's right but clever marketing

John Lewis are doing the 32 inch model for £699 + their 5 year guarantee.
I'm very tempted to buy this as I now get 15% staff discount at John Lewis which will make it just under £595 but I can't find a good review for it online. |

I recently bought a couple of new TVs for my living room and bedroom, and had a look at the Samsung Series 8 LED TV range.
I struggled to find any reviews with the words "outstanding", or any words similar, so decided to go to a few independent TV shops. The sales assistants advised me that the technology is still very new, and a lot of the bugs still haven't been ironed out, and would advise me to wait a couple of years until they're more established. In the end I went for a Panasonic Viera TX-P54Z1 Plasma for the living room, and a Panasonic Viera TX-P42G15B Plasma for the bedroom. Both produce the best picture I have ever seen. I have one in my living room hooked up to my broadband, and can watch youtube on them in full screen (in surprisingly good quality), and both also have SDHC slots, so I can watch DIVX movies instantly just by clicking on the correct button. My old TVs were both LCD, as I was always a bit suspicious about plasma screens, but these two NeoPDP (whatever that is) Plasmas are great. I'm not sure what all the numbers on the spec means, as I'm the worst at techy stuff ever, but a friend of mine is a bit of a geek, and he says the spec is awesome. |

don't worry about specs, esp contrast ratios and such which are made up and so have no meaning. many plasmas are some of the best screens out there.

Depends how honest you are as a company?, neither Sony (or the others who also sell them) have claimed they are LED TV's.
http://www.lge.com/uk/tv-audio-video...ions/index.jsp I presume these are the same technology as those from Samsung? |

i reckon most TVs give stunning pictures now
i have a 3yr old 42" Hitachi (no freeview!) - but the picture still looks great on all formats - SD/HD/DVD/BluRay i also have a 32" Toshiba Regza in the kitchen - again superb picture. |

As the technology has moved on what is being sourced by budget brands was state of the art a few years when flat panel performance really started to accelerate so now it's just a question of making sure you don't buy the one lemon each manufacturer probably has in their lineup

I really like how slim it is, and was very tempted.....
but when I found out just how misleading the marketing is and that it's just a side-lit LED backlight, and that Sony's X4500 series is RGB dynamic backlight, I bought the latter instead. I've not seen better picture quality than this. It's amazing. In fact I react much more to what I'm watching! like it's real! very strange. I was used to an ambilight P***ips thing which was good at the time, I thought =) |
