If she doesn't care what the public think, why was she crying when her name was called out last night? In fact why did she enter the contest in the first place!

I did think alot of Rachel's comments last night like - "The public didn't give me my voice" was her way of saying 'F*ck the lot of you!'

I think you should change the title and put the quote in context, rather than take it out of the sentence in which she used it.

What is this? the Daily Mail?

She came across really well on This Morning today. She was joking saying that if Whitney loved her voice she didn't really care what everyone else thought. Good for her if it makes her feel better.

I knew the Rachel bashing would come along sooner or later. Like it or not, she was way stronger than Lloyd in the sing off and by rules (save the strongest sing off) should have been saved. I hope she signs a record contract and becomes the UK's Rihanna... but better live.

Well, she's right isn't she. There's no point sucking up to the British public at this stage, because they obviously weren't interested in what she has to offer, and I doubt they'll be running to the stores in droves to buy her music. If she won the competition and said that, I think she'd be shooting herself in the foot. But in these circumstances, she doesn't need to worry about offending a public who put her in the bottom two 3 times. What are the "public" going to do...vote her out again

I think Rachel knows that if she wants to find success, she'll probably have to go to America first. I don't know if the British music buyers will give her a chance, without the American seal of approval. It's amazing how quickly the "British public" can discover that they liked you after all, if Americans decide to support your music (see Estelle, Jay Sean).

I think the context was, reading that, that she considers Whitney's judgment on her singing to be more important than the publics - or am I reading that wrong?

"Whenever I think about Whitney's kind words about me it just makes me smile. Seriously, I don't really care what the public think – Whitney knows, man! I want to be as big as Whitney"

Either way, I think what the article says at the end is true.

She certainly has the voice, but can Rachel really be as big as Whitney Houston. That all depends on the public, doesn't it?

She does need people to buy her records, so probably shouldnt say she doesnt care what the public thinks, but I don't think she meant it the way it was taken. Its a bit of an odd thing to say for someone who wants a recording/singing career though, thats for sure.

Well good for her. Why should she play all humble when nobody even bothered to vote for her.

If she ever gets a recording contract I'm sure people will buy her stuff based on the strength of the music and not on an obscure statement she made during a 10 minute interview on This Morning.

Yes you are probably right.
Realistically, she is probably better off because she will be able to do her own thing (whatever that is, I never really know what the contestants would do given the choice!) instead of having to release the normal generic pop rubbish that the winner has to.

Well, if the rumors of her getting some American label interest turn out to be true, then maybe she realises that she doesn't really need the British public (who didn't want her in the first place). It's becoming very commonplace for "unwanted" British singers to go over to the US, and basically make it their main base. Estelle and Jay Sean didn't need to suck up to the British public to get hits in the UK....they just got hits in America first, and the UK public did what it usually does when Americans like something, and lapped up their songs.

What is that difference? Members of the public watch the X Factor - at least I watch it and the last time I checked, I wasn't the Queen!

Reading between the lines i'm thinking what she's actually saying is "I don't care what those $%*^*69 that didn't vote for me think " and good for her , presumably they won't be the ones buying her records anyway , why should she suck up to them ?

I wish her all the best she was my favourite.

I think her problem was she didn't have a gimmick to rely on each week.

That's an insult to West End performers.

I see a lot of West End Musicals, of which so far "Wicked" has been the best. So much so that I have seen it twice and will be back to see it again next year.

I can't fit Rachel's voice into any of them in my head, not that it means anything, because I am not an expert. But I think she will be better in a recording career.

Having now seen the interview on the website I think the comment has definitely been taken out of context. If you actually watch it you'll see it was made in a humourous manner just to emphasise Whitney's status as one of the best singers on the planet and how receiving positive feedback from her meant more to Rachel than anything else in the world.

I'm not surprised some trash mag like Heat has tried to make more out of it.

She has very little chance of having a successful career in music unless she gets lucky and someone gives her a hit song.

Rachel = best female singer in competition.

Danyl = best male singer in competition.

Both have been in the bottom 2 - just shows that the British public really do not know what they're doing when it comes to talent.

The X Factor is a joke in as much that it's not about who's got the most talent. Having lots of talent is no guarantee that you will win - being likeable or fanciable will get you more votes. That's why I think the judges should have the ultimate say in who goes through, not the public.

It's a joke.

You can't blame her for being resentful. She was one of the best singers, she gave the best performance this week (well I thought so anyway) so she has been chucked out because noone wants to throw their knickers at her presumably. She didn't help herself with the weird mood swings, but I can understand she must be feeling quite hurt
