Are Phil and Katya an item?

I think the OP has a good imagination - I would never have thought that one up.

I think Katya is aware of Phil's good points, but probably the thing that annoys her most, is that he has the potential to be much better but cant be bothered to earn it.

Nothing. But it does have to do with whether a young, attractive, ambitious, disciplined girl would have any interest in him romantically - which is what the thread is about.

At it like rabbits ... only have to look at Tuffers hip shenanigans every time they do a Latin. He's like one of those horny dogs who humps a toy and keeps humping away even after the toy's six feet behind him.

Back in the real world, I doubt he'll get more than a peck on the cheek unless they win. Doesn't start training harder soon, and he might even be getting an accidentally on purpose stiletto toe-crusher. Katya strikes me as somewhat competitive and prone to frustration the longer the show goes on.

I think Katya has warmed to Phil over the weeks but maybe they are not huggy huggy people.
Phil needs to put in extra wok

Love is blind, though.

Luckily for me.

Yes but the op is making the assumption that as well as being blind she is stupid which I don't see any evidence off...

It doesn't have anything to do with how well he dances, but it does have everything to do with how he is preceived on an entertainment show. I think it is quite clear that SCD isn't just about the dancing, but the personalities as well.

When you're in love, you do things that others class as stupid though. There's no accounting for it most times!

Katya doesn't seem to appreciate Phil's cheeky, fun side in moments when he perhaps just wants a little fun in training. It's not a bad thing when you're a professional dancer and it's easy to see why they'd want to just get on with the dancing, but I think with a celeb with a personality like Phil's, you come to expect them to want to chill out and have a bit of fun from time to time.

Katya seems extremely competitive, to the point where she would want to win (again, I'm not saying that's a bad thing. It's not.) whereas I think Phil ust wants to enjoy the experience. It doesn't seem like the best combination from the way I see it.

Of course, I'm judging by what we see of them for only a short time a week. I could totally have misinterpreted it.”

I think Lilia would have understood this. With the exception of Dom all her partners have had fun as well as reaping the benefit of excellent training and choreography.

Including those who went out early.

I think JohnFromWales summed Katya up perfectly in his blog - she's a bit of an Ice Maiden.

I don't mind her but she's quite stern and totally mismatched with Tuffers. They haven't clicked.

He would have been better off being paired with Lilia who isn't quite so uptight.

I see her in the same category as Erin - work and show your worth first, then we'll have a laugh - Miss Whiplash MKII

I think they got on really well at the beginning. But now she's getting frustrated with his laid back attitude she seemed to go off him when she started his biog...

I think Phil T could actually dance well (his tango wasn't at all bad), but his silly grins and apparent constant messing about drives me mad. As for Katya, nothing is more frustrating for a teacher than to have a pupil (celeb or otherwise) who clearly has potential but doesn't bother to try to fulfil it.

Erin has a great sense of humour - I don't see much evidence of Katya having one.

Well she did describe Tuffers as being "Way more sexy" than Antonio Banderas, which had Mrs Three Left Feet falling off the sofa with laughter.

I really like Katya, but then I have a history of falling for gorgeous but scary women.

Phil would have the same relationship (at least in terms of what we're shown) with whatever pro he was put with. It's his storyline/hook/"journey" and always would have been. He was cast with exactly this sort of "laid back Phil exasperates his more competitive partner" deal in mind.

I think Katya has a good sense of humour - she certainly comes across that way to me on ITT.

She is a good teacher and she has to be the way she is with Phil in the training room to even get what she is getting out of him.

His Tango was better than I expected, partly because Katya had selected less dynamic music, which was more suited to Phil's less macho man. He did stay on a level with bent knees, and did look like he was leading.

It was a fairly good result for 12 hours training with little time for polishing his balls - or maybe he puts a shammy in his underpants?

They were out on the town together last night at the premiere of Christmas Carol looking very relaxed.

Mrs Tuffers was there too, it has be said.

Pics in some of the papers.

I hardly think she'd be enjoying an evening out with Mr and Mrs Tuffers if she couldn't stand him, as some on here would have you believe.

There's a huge difference between the coach/pupil relationship and the personal one.

At one level, The Kat is the coach and The Cat the pupil. He clearly needs a lot of encouragement (a.k.a. shouting at!) to get off his backside and dance. Having been coached and done a lot of coaching myself in sport, this has little impact on the personal relationship.

The coach may shout at the pupil, but out of the classroom, get on perfectly well.

Conversely, the pupil may be an ideal one from a coaching perspective, and training sessions may pass without incident, but the coach and the pupil may just have nothing in common otherwise on which to form a relationship.

Personally, if The Kat hates The Cat it's good news for me, as there's one less hurdle to overcome in my somewhat optimistic plan to claim The Kat for myself.

I think Lilia and Tuffers would have been serious contenders, for sure.

They'd have paired up well, imo.

It's entirely innapropriate for a mid 40s married man to be pawing/kissing/cuddling/flirting wth a woman 20 years his junior . Tuffers knows that and I woud imagine Katya is entirely thankful that their relationship is always businesslike. They can't all be like Ali and Brian and tango off into the sunset.
If you want an example of a woman who definitely does not want to be kissed or cuddled at the end of the routine look no further than the matchless Flavia

Sorry, genuine question - Is this supposed to be ironic?

I agree with both of these posters. I think Tuffers and Katya are well matched. He needs to be pushed and when she shouts at him, he'll be thinking "S*d off!" and then go all out to prove her wrong. She will know by now what his concentration span is like and how to get him through a training session. You've only got to watch their clips on ITT when he is struggling with every dance and then see how he pulls it out of the bag on a Saturday night. He doesn't make many mistakes at all, so I'd say Katya is doing a pretty good job with him and they get along just fine. Lilia would also have been good with Phil, but he's a bit tall for her as he is at least 6'.

no : imho Craig & Flav have much worse chemisty than Kat & Tuffers .

Flavia's been entirely ready to spend more time with Claudia for at least the last three weeks . Craig is just too self pitying
