Why don't people like Danyl

It's a combination of things for me.

I don't like or rate his voice. It has neither musical quality, character nor individuality, little control and hence no reliability or consistency (unless you consider the "ability" to repeatedly miss notes consistency) .

His performance "skills" consist of desperation - either frantic, manic moves, facial expressions that resemble nervous tics or he puts on the look of a lost fawn.

Even before things started to appear in the press, infact even before his audition was screened, I had heard stories about his personality and have not heard anything to refute them. I have to say if he were to win or get a contract, they better pray that a lot of people are not paid to open their mouths.

All in all, there is no redeeming feature unfortunately. The industry is full of people who are not the most pleasant but they have a great deal of talent or some sort of charisma. Likewise there are many who are lovely but not so talented. If you are both talented and lovely, great, if you are neither to any great extent, start praying now.

I don't really care either way about Danyl as a person,he doesn't really seem like the sort of person I'd want to know, but maybe he's different off screen so I'm not going to say I dislike him. But Danyl as a singer is just not my thing at all. I don't like his voice or his style of performing,or,come to that, how every single performance so far has been exactly the same.

As far as I can remember, Louis told Danyl after the 1st live show that he was too confident [arrogant?] and " hadn't won it yet."
I didn't see it myself, but it may have started the ball rolling with the negative comments and press etc.
I loved Danyl's first audition because he made it his own.
Not sure what he's allowed to do with the rest of his performances or how he's mentored Hope he's not held back.
Love his voice

I think he's all style and no substance. It's all about the performance to him it seems, whereas I like music to show personality, depth and warmth. I certainly don't feel like Danyl shows any of those qualities. He just leaves me cold.
Plus, I usually feel like I can detect arrogance or over-competitiveness in people or in their actions, and my detector goes off the scale with Danyl.
He couldn't handle criticism judging by last week, which showed me the signs of a wounded ego.

I never buy the music of someone I do not like so for me it would be good if Danyl was eliminated because I would much more enjoy listening to most of the other acts.

This is all in my own personal opinion of course.
But, like most other people, I champion my opinion over anyone elses.

I don't like the vibes he gives off.....end of! He dosn't make me happy when I watch him. He dosen't make me smile. He dosn't move me with his singing or his personality.

This is just it. You can not support someone because they're not your cuppa tea, but you can still accept that they have talent and they can sing. Danyl is brilliant, he's by far my favourite.

Thing about X Factor though is that people vote for who they like or fancy, most won't vote on talent, I would say. So the winner of X Factor's not necessarily going to be the most talented one, just the most popular one.

Same goes for the music industry.

The most talented artists aren't the ones that top the charts, it's the most popular ones that do.

I don't like him as a performer.

And actually I think that's the case with most people.

I shouldn't have to have my opinion undermined by obsessive fans who think that he is SO talented that the only explanation is that we must all be bitter and resort to calling him arrogant and unlikeable. It's really not that at all.

Don't people recognise talent when they see it?”

You obviously haven't read the papers which are setting the Danyl agenda.

Indeed.

I neither read nor am interested in tabloids or heat magazine, apart from a few thread titles in this forum and what he said last week on the show itself, I dont honestly really know what it is he is supposed to have done.

However, his performances are largely a mumbled couple of verses building up to his one note, even if, like this weekend, it didnt actually fit into the song (the last of the three did, the first two- not so much).

He can shout in tune, quite loudly ,for brief periods of a song, thats his talent. His diction is attrocious, which given his drama background is puzzling, and no matter what Simon says, both Lucie and Joe are far superior technical vocalists, and Ollie (currently) outperforms all of them.

Hence me not falling at the altar of danyl.

You are entitled to your opinion Agent F but I have twice posted on another thread exact quotes taken from a Rachel interview on here defending Danyl & had it ignored.

It does not fit with an out of context quote associated to her confirming a perceived less than savoury incident between Danyl & Stacy.

I am no particular fan of Danyl's but there are several posters on here who are picking & choosing the quotes they want to latch onto & stating them as gospel truth.

It works both ways.

I just cannot take to this guy. His performances are the same every week and as for Satrudays performance - he was so out of tune it was embarrassing and coming over like he'd been so hard done to - who cares? I don't.

I'd love him to be out next.

Even more funny than in AI, the very overrated Adam Lambert was rated because of his so called singing when all he did was scream?

OP, he is XF's very own Danny Gokey aka whipping boy.

I do feel that given the increasingly ambivalent attitudes towards him by the public having his photo taken holding hands with another man was a PR disaster.

I'm not being the slightest bit homophobic, if he likes the guy great, or if it was just a friendly hand hold, so what?

BUT, the British are a fickle lot, indeed downright homophobic/racist a great deal of the time, though sadly those sentiments are never fully expressed and bubble under the surface.

To be photographed in such an unequivocal way I sadly feel will alienate the predominantly female demographic. If you're appealing by sex, the best way to play it is to be sexless and let the viewer fill in their fantasy.

I do think Danyl is somewhat gauche, he's not very good at reading situations or playing the game for PR, which isn't a criticism, but if you're playing a game such as X Factor, where so many other factors must be taken into consideration besides the paltry 2 minutes spent singing every week, you have to be savvy. Something Danyl plainly isn't.

I was impressed with his audition, sort of. The way the audience reacted, and the way he was all over the stage performing to them. But at the same time I was thinking, if this had been an ordinary audition with just the judges, then his audition would just not have worked. I wondered if he had waited for an audition of that nature or not at the time, so that he could do that.
As regards his singing, I wont say he has no talent, because he has. I just don't like the sound of his voice, and after every song he has done on the show, I haven't found them to be memorable in anyway. I think I would prefer him to sings songs of a different style to what he has been given, maybe more rock like Jamie or something really uptempo. I don't know if that would improve him or not, but the stuff he is singing now makes me feel like zzzzzzz. That would fit anyone for me who sings like that, and those sorts of songs.
I appreciate for anyone getting up on stage performing that they might have this 'persona' that is there for the performance only, then they go back to being themselves, but with him it feels like he goes a bit over the top with his onstage persona. I think he is actually a bit of a perfectionist, and has gone to great lengths to make sure that what he does is good, but sort of comes across as over practiced to me and also as if he's been doing it for years. Which is a sort of vicious circle.

I think the tears he's had have been genuine too, because underneath it all I don't feel he is as confident as he appears to be. I think he is quite sensitive, and to give him the inner confidence he needs he has had to practice and practice to get what he does right and feel it's perfect, to feel ok about showing that in front of others. I think the name calling of being cocky and arrogant, are actually wrong, I feel he is self assured in how he feels about his performance and his ability due to practicing and trying to perfect it. So to be criticised when he knows the standard of his own performance, which he thinks is pretty good, I think would be a bit confusing to him. I think that is one of the differences between him and the rest of the contestants. They're putting it out, they're more naive and not being totally sure what they have done is good or brilliant and can understand and await the critique, but he has a standard already that he knows, a better understanding of the performing arts, so to me, he feels that anything the judges say in their critique is a bit of a shock/surprise if it doesn't agree with how he feels about it. Because he thinks he knows his stuff.

I don't 'hate' Danyl - I just dislike him as a performer. I wasn't keen on his first audition and there hasn't been anything in his performances since that has appealed to me. I find him very OTT as a performer and his voice doesn't have character or warmth - I find it very 'generic' and forgettable.

There's something very 'desperate' about him, and I think that's possibly what's putting people off. He needs to see X-Factor for what it is - an interesting experience that could be fun if he allowed himself to enjoy it, rather than the be-all-and-end-all for his career! Perhaps if he relaxed more and just embraced the X-Factor experience for the daftness that it is, he might be more interesting to watch, and his performances might be better!

People, forget he is the Danyl you have been reading about and judge his performance with fresh eyes and an open mind

PS I follow my own advice every week and only rated Danyl 4th on Sat after Olly, Lucie and Stacey!”

I actually liked his performance after a shaky start. He's in my top three along with Stacey and Joe. It's not that Lucie, Jamie and Olly sang any worse than him, they may have been better technically, I just prefer Danyl's voice.

I don't like Danyl because I don't think he sings or performs very well - I feel uncomfortable watching him so now tend to leave the room when he's on.
