Questions Questions

Hi All,

I've signed up for Tiscali TV, but wanted to ask a few questions while I'm still within the 10 day cooling off period.

I'm fed up of waiting for approval to post to the Tiscali forums, so posting here in the hope that someone (or one of the MKs) can answer.

1. I was told by the very friendly call centre lady that we can watch and record subtitles when available on ALL Freeview channels - is this definitely the case?

This is a total dealbreaker if not.

2. I was told that Tiscali are working on subtitles for the on demand and other channels. Is this definitely the case?
Is there a timescale?

So... are these two things true? Or do I need to cancel my order?

Thanks!!

David

Could you tell me if, once you have set subtitles to record, you can choose whether they are displayed or not? I can't figure that out.

Thanks Vangeezer

From my experience, the subtitle information will be recorded automatically on Freeview channels and when you play the programme back you decide whether to display them or not as you would if you were watching the programme live.

Hope this helps,

David.

I was about to throw the remote control thru the TV screen to get rid of the subtitles when I took one last look at it (the remote) and noticed a never-used Text button at the bottom right

With only a few seconds testing I can assure threemonkeydust that the response to subtitles on/off is instant compared to my Freeview PVRs, most impressive.

Thanks again everyone.

In case anyone else is interested - I can confirm subtitles on Freeview channels AND on DSL channels such as Sky1 from my exchange (Burton upon Trent).

Great!

ps. Is there a hidden Pan And Scan option so the pic fits better on my lousy 4/3 TV?

I don't know about 'pan & scan', but have you been into Settings?

MyTV
TV Settings
(bottom option, if you ^ on remote control it will take you straight to the bottom one)
TV Set Up

Then choose Widescreen Options and select 4:3

Just in case

Great indeed!

I do hope the DSL subtitles are enabled nationwide and not just limited to Burton though(!)

Sky 1 is the only DSL channel I get subtitles on (only have the basic package though).

Hmm... nothing here so far (SW Surrey) - perhaps it's a gradual roll-out on an exchange by exchange basis.

London SW16: I keep forgetting to check - Sky1 is rarely viewed here. However, just did check and there's a prog called "Angela and Friends", live chat, no subtitles. Will set a recording of a different type of prog and check later.

It's not a 'must see' channel down here either - we only really watch The Simpsons & Futurama on Sky1.

I can therefore confirm that The Simpsons is subtitled(!)

Ha! It was a toss-up between those two and as I'd never seen Futurama but knew that The Simpsons would be watchable, the latter got recorded.

Just checked - subtitles R us
