Look at Simon Cowell's actions rather than his words.

Last weekend, although knowing Rachel is a better singer than Lloyd, he did not vote Lloyd out and let it go to deadlock - and he must have been pretty sure that would go in Lloyd's favour.

So.... there you have it! The owner of the show has demonstrated that this a popularity contest. So let's have no more nonsense about XF being a singing contest! OK?

The public have also shown that they don't regard it as a "singing contest" ; Rachel finished last, and by all accounts Danyl did very well and may even have topped the poll after his worst ever live performance.

If the DS mods can ban people with a sense of humour then they can ban anyone who doesn't understand that concept...

I was just listening to the mp3 of Rachel's performance on both the live show and the sing off. She's amazing! There's no way she should be off if it's a singing contest.
Now obviously you need something else than just having a good voice, but cowell himself says repeatedly "lets bring it back to the singing talent" etc so he really doesn't practice what he preaches!

As Cowell stated, there was a reason that Rachel had been in the sing off three times.

While I agree with your thread, we all know Cowell is just protecting his wallet.

Up until Sunday I would have argued that it was a singing competiton, I have also posted as much more than once on these forums, but Simon clearly demonstrated it is definately not a singing competiton.

Next you'll be telling me the acts don't write their own songs.

Simon really is being a hypocrite. He accuses Stacey of being a "singing candle" and says she should concentrate on moving around more. But when John and Edward move around more than any of the other contestants he tells them it's a "singing contest."

No need to put on pantomimes this year; just look at the X Factor. It's nothing to do with singing. There is blatant miming every week from the celebrity acts and now the contestants are miming each week during the group performance. Lloyd was only put through because he looks like David Beckham and I wouldn't be surprised if Cheryl begged him to go for Lloyd during the long delay while he announced his decision. Come on John and Edward. Hope you win so that this show will be destroyed forever and we can save the music industry while we still have time.

Spot on.

I hope the hypocritical Simon remembers that next time Danyl is in the bottom 2 as well.

At the end of the day X Factor is a Karaoke competition-an extremely glorified one, but still a Karoake competition. Votes are cast from hormone charged teens to people who want to annoy Simon Cowell. It should be no surprise when there are seemingly strange choices.
You have got to hand it to Simon though-his influence over British music is an ever growing empire, though when there are X Factor linked releases all year round, we might just live to regret the obsession.

Would he say the say thing is Danyl finds himself in the bottom 2 on another 2 occasions?

So whats the point, why do they even bother singing, just let the plebs do a little dance, prefer that than let this show put another nail in the coffin of British music.

It is mainly a singing contest but there are other factors that come into it........likeability is one of them. Do you really want someone to win who the public don't like? No, that is why Simon sent to deadlock because Rachel had been in the bottom 2 three times and it was only right for the audience vote to decide.

Now I know you will bring up Danyl and his likeability, but he must be loved as they have been voting him through every week and no one knows the exact reason he was in the bottom 2 last week, there could be a number of reasons.

The X Factor has never been a competition at all. It is an entertainment show designed to manipulate the public into watching and voting, and hence making a certain few people a hell of a lot of cash.

This John and Edward crap is the most contrived nonsense ever. If Simon Cowell didn't want them he would not have them on his show. Their presence is to create the illusion that he doesn't have control over every single part of the process...

...and millions are falling for it.

Do people here have selective memory?

Danyl was clearly better than Miss Frank in the bottom two yet Cheryl chose to vote for Miss Frank to send it to deadlock because she was "confused by public's vote".

It never was just a singing competition

Its a show about having that certain something ie the x factor - it doesn't mean you have to have an outstanding voice (although you have to have at least some voice obvously as in turn you are finding a person with that something who can sing).

Its also a popularity contest

It's a competition to find a recording artist. Recording artists need to be able to sell their recordings, that comes from the 'X Factor', not just being able to sing. Rachel clearly wasn't very popular with the public as ended up bottom two every week bar one when the sympathy factor kicked in.

If she had not been the least popular, Simon wouldn't have been able to sacrifice her.
