Can anyone recommend a basic Freeview Box with recording facility.

It would need to meet the following criteria

1) Easy to use for 80 yr old

2) Doesn't "hum" all the time. My lad has one in his bedroom that seems to make an annoying noise all the time

3) As cheap as possible

My MIL's basic freeview is proving tempermental and before buy a new one I was wondering if a recordable machine might be a better option.

Thanks in advance

The Terrestrial/Freeview forum is the place to be

The hum is probably the hard drive spinning which I think they all do when not idle in standby but some may be louder than others. The basics pretty easy to grasp and far more simplistic than using a VCR for recording and playback and as new models have entered the market prices have dropped but again pop over to the other forum for better real world experience.

My 84yr old mum gets on quite happily with her Wharfedale PVR. Even manages to record two things at the same time if she has to!

She got hers from Argos but i have just had a glance at their website and unless my eyesight is worse than I thought it is I couldn't see any Wharfedale kit on there any more??

So not sure what the replacement would be. The Wharfedale and I suspect it's Vestel brothers and sisters are fairly simple beasts to master. Not so sure my mum could live with my Humax for example.
