I want a phone that phones people
I am looking to buy a new mobile phone. My current one I bought in 1998, but the screen is scratched and faded etc..
I would also like my work to be able to contact me while I'm out for lunch incase there is any problems. My concern is, I've been looking up different mobile phones, and they are near impossible to use. I only want my phone to make outgoing and accept incoming calls. I don't want voicemail, bluetooth, cameras, fancy ringtones, ding dongs. I don't want the price of cheese in Japan delivered to my inbox everyday. I want a simple, easy to use good value phone. I am thinking of joining Asda or tesco mobile as they seem good value. What would you recomed? |

I think you're going to have hard job finding a phone without the features you've listed. These days, they come as standard.
If you want to go out your way to buy a phone with no features, you could - but what's the point? You won't be saving much money and those features could come in handy one day. Like everything, I think you get what you pay for. If you spend under £50, you're going to end up with a creaky, cheap-plastic-feeling, likely-to-go-wrong, piece of crap. If you want a quality phone that's likely to last another 10 years, I think it's worth parting with double the amount you're planning to spend and buy something easy, basic and built to last like the Nokia 6303 Classic. I would recommend Asda Mobile, who are cheaper and slightly less evil than Tesco. |

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...SUNG+E1120.htm ... and Orange are expensive compared to Asda. ... and the E1120 creaks more than an old people's home. |

I much preferred the slightly earlier 3210 myself, but Amazon are selling the old 3310 at under 50 quid new and about £20 if you don't mind a second hand one.

I'd rather not buy online. I don't really trust the internet anymore after having had 2 bad experiences.
I cannot and refuse to pay over £50 for a piece of plastic. I will not be conned by the networks. Also - that phone you guys posted - the keys are a bit close together, so I'd end up pressing 2 instead of 3 etc.. I'd rather something where the buttons were just a bit further apart. |

All the features you mention yes you do find as standard on most mobiles today but it doesnt mean you have to use them.
Both asda and tesco are good value but it depends on your calling habits if there good value to you. I also agree with Pencil the nokia 6303 is a good solid phone that should easily last you another 10 years, wether you use any of its other features or not. |

You will also be hard pushed to find a phone with far apart buttons - most mobiles are built to be small and discreet nowadays. Big and clunky is not what a mobile is all about. The only phones that I can really recommend to you are the lower-market Nokias. They are built like bricks and will last for years. However, they are a little more than £50... |

Carphone Warehouse for a cheap and cheerful Nokia 1661 for under a tenner. Can't beat it!

Nokia 2730 Classic
A good cheaper alternative to the 6303, surprisingly stylish for a sub £50 phone and quite basic, just ignore the features that you don't want, you can't avoid them these days, and they aren't particularly intrusive. I'm not sure about 10 years, but I'm sure you'll get a good few years out of this. |

Is exactly what you are looking for. in reality I loathe to admit it but a Nokia 1100 is what the OP needs. Not sure if they're still available on the high street anymore. Good reliable phone, and virtually indestructible |

i get that you might not want most of those features if you just want to use it for phonecalls but why would you not want voicemail, it's just an answer phone and could come in handy if you were away from your phone and missed a call.

I'm not after a Nokia, I need a name I know and trust, like Sony or Phillips.
I'm worried voicemail could be complicated to use, and I can't really be bothered with those little cassettes, or CD's whatever the newer ones use. |

Nokia are the biggest phone manufacturer in the world.
I'd rather have a Nokia than a Phillips phone any day. |
