Which replacement remote are you guys using and is it a case of learning the functions?

J
There are several excellent ones on the market including the Hamony One? although the one I am using is the one for all 7556, good value and does the job with my set up. In essence all you do is enter the learning mode then point the One for All remote at the Harmony and it learns the function.

There is a code for the Humax device which gives a start point, then you have to program a few keys. You can do the whole device from scratch if you want though.
The device code for the Humax is S1176 .

I'm using a harmony 525.

You tell it what equipment you're using and it sets it up for you.

If you want you can assigned any button to another purpose.

Be warned, though, that the software is truly appalling. It makes the Humax UI look extraordinarily good in comparison. Most people find it's worth sticking with as once it's set up it's really good.

I found it improved the whole experience of using the PVR.

I'll be absolutely delighted to have the last laugh on me if they really do a top class job on the update.

But they'll need to fix the piece of clunkiness that drives me to distraction on an almost daily basis; the wretched info bar that stays on screen way too long and prevents you performing certain functions instead of just disappearing and doing what you told it to.
When your driven to distraction,
By your HDR's poor action.
Just accept the firmware update, with a bow!
Even if something's not in - give Bob_Cat a big grin,
And enjoy it - it's the last one anyhow!

And, all together now....
Always look on the bright side of life ....
Humax did their best to get the upgrade right ....
And again ....
Always ....

Can I recommend a Philips Pronto? A touchscreen control which will work every piece of kit you have got - and then some! Never runs out of buttons, just add as many as you need. Write macros for complicated switching processes so you can PLAY DVD etc. at the touch of one button. Can be programmed on pc then uploaded to remote or directly on the pronto. Has a learning function in case you can't find the required codes. Costly brand new, but available on ebay quite reasonably. One remote on the coffee table, you can't beat it.

Any bets that the long awaited HDR update airs on 10/11/09....???

The DTG website shows that the 1.00.03 OAD now has an end date of 10/11/09.........ready for new OAD????

If only I could predict lottery numbers...................

I may have run into this. My one and only lockup a few months ago was during a twin recording but I can't remember whether I had changed to a radio channel or not. But perhaps there is more than one scenario that triggers this?

I've had the HDR since December last year and it has probably locked up around 6 times since then. I did, however have 2 lock ups over the weekend. In my case, they appear to happen after I bring the box out of standby or soon after.

The first occurred whilst I was recording 'Dateline London' and tried to watch an already recorded programme, 'Click', I had accessed the media menu, selected the programme to watch and it locked up. It was annoying, I couldn't watch 'Click' and I couldn't switch the HDR off as I was recording 'Dateline London', which I couldn't watch either as the menus were plastered all across the screen!

The second was this morning, I noticed the clock was being displayed, so it hadn't shut down into power saving mode overnight. I brought it out of 'standby' switched the TV on, tried to access the schedule and no response. tried a few more button presses to make sure it wasn't the remote (worse remote I've ever had the misfortune to use, but that's a different story!) pressed the standby button on the HDR, no response.

So, in answer to your question there appear to be quite a few different scenarios that result in the HDR locking up, but they are not always repeatable, so difficult to diagnose.

I've had over twenty lockups, but I hope that they are all related to the above. (I recorded MUCH more radio programs than TV, so here's hoping.)

I've had similar, increasing in frequency over the life of the unit.

And then I replaced the hard drive a few weeks ago, and not had one since.

I believe it was intimated a while back that there is a hardware constraint that is preventing a software solution for this problem.

I have queried this in another thread with Bob_Cat and he stated that there is no issues with the hardware and it's purely a software issue.

I am also quite annoyed that this is not fixed or it could be that they just haven't mentioned it in the fix list (and it could be a nice surprise). Cross those fingers

If the power restore issue is resolved it will be a separate issue, it requires a change to the boot-loader which cannot be broadcast in an OTA.

It isn't a simple issue but last time I checked we were looking at it.

I just wanted to say a big thanks to all at Humax and Bob_Cat for adding these features and fixing the issues. The not being able to delete while recording was a biggie for me so I'm as happy as a pig in some substance!!!

Not tried it yet but have downloaded and will install when I get home tonight.

I will second that, the device worked as I expected from the box, a change from sky+, but it's done what I bought it for.

As long as Humax sort out any bugs then great what more can anyone ask. As for the power issue I'm sure you will work something out at the end of the day its just a bit of programming and how the device starts up and checks its time and date to keep the schedules working. Its how that fits in with everything else is the fun bit.

Having dealt with netgeat with the EVA8000 streamer which should never have been released to the public with its original firmware I know to well how companys can really let themselfs down. Netgears only saving grace was its Beta test forum which managed to resolve much of the issues and then suddenly stopped being supported as the Netgear team of software writers moved to the replacement platform leaving unfinshed business. The ethoss that seemed to be forgotten was to get the device doing what it said on the box. Thankfully the humax does virtually what it says on the box and its warming to hear that other issues are still being looked into to see if there is a resolve.

Thanks for the info above KDH otherwise i would have been waiting for OTA.
Anyway the download works as I have just done it.
Upgraded from Loader U 7.52 to U 7.53.
Upgraded from firmware 1.00.03 to 1.00.11.
Not done any real testing for bug fixes , just switched back on and it is working.
If you use this method then follow the instructions not like me being a geek and using instructions as a last resort. I put usb in rear socket not front usb socket forgetting it existed behind the flap.

Thanks Humax.

I will test for recording/deleting which was my only real issue and I will get back to the forum.

I have done some limited testing as in bold above but further testing will be required due to the nature of some of these bugs.
I will leave that to others.

Happy downloading and you don't have to wait for OTA.
As Bob_Cat says above you may need to do it this way for Loader anyway.

Just updated both loader and firmware here - really easy to do with USB stick, only took 5 mins.

Well done to Humax and the teams who have worked on this update, also to all those that reported the issues over the last year mostly via Bob & Humax support.

I forgot to mension, the good news is that for me at least deleting is much, much quicker an HD film for instance in under two seconds rather that 10-15.

May be a bug or just me but I cannot get Dr Who mars episode on the 15th to select as recording without getting Dr confidential just after it to show as recording as well.
It did not do this before.
Can you try that savvy please?

I did select this initially from a search for doctor who though so that may be it.
