I guess this happens less these days with the internet and being able to sample CDs online etc but in the old days I used to blindly buy CDs and albums of bands I'd heard were good only to get home and find out I hated them. Here are a few examples:

Believer - Extraction from mortality
Glenn Tipton - Baptizm of fire
Annihilator - Criteria for a black widow
Testament - The new order
Flotsam and Jetsom - Cuatro

Pink Floyd - Meddle
It's the only Floyd album I've heard. I bought it after liking a cover I'd heard of Fearless, but I found it very boring and never listened to it again. I'm told Floyd were greats, but it put me off getting any of their other albums (and I still haven't).

The Smiths - The Queen is Dead
I was told it was so great. I listened to it, and it is by no means bad, but I wasn't blown away by it as I expected.

The last Stereophonics album.
That's another for the "one play only" section.

Dig out a copy of "A Saucerful of Secrets"(Floyd) I promise you you'll see what all the fuss was about.
One listen to the track "Set The Controls For The Heart of The Sun" should convert you.

I've never, ever, bought an album I've never been unhappy with. I sometimes buy blindly, but still I would have heard one track on television, etc, and ended up liking the rest after listening to them two or three times.

I said some nasty stuff 'bout Michelle's album, but once I listened to it more than once, I grew to love it. I'm listening to it now, and I really like it.

Syndicate.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Obviously, as a Marillion fan, I've got a lot of respect for Floyd and their influence. I don't know much about "Saucerful" and I'm surprised you've suggested that as a starter, and not the more famous "Dark Side" or "The Wall" albums.

The "only once listened to pile" consist of Bon Jovi - SLippery When Wet and Emma Bunton (except what she's released as singles.
Also everything by Blue.

I actually quite like Spocks Beard - Feel Euphoria and, in contrast, I bought Neal Morse's 'It's not too late' album and was really disappointed (apart from the title track of course). Maybe I need to listen to it a few more times.

I'd actually suggest giving Meddle another listen. Now you know what to expect you might find it better than you thought.

I can't believe someone bought a Glenn Tipton album and actually expected something good!

Nickleback - The Long Road

I was tempted to take it back for a refund, but i think i will give it to someone I particulary despise for their birthday. The only good track was "Someday". The rest of the album consists of more "How You Remind Me" esque poor rip offs! bah!

Hmmm. I sense a theme here. Bet you went in to buy something else the second and third time but when you got to the counter said Oasis?

Dido - Life For Rent

One of the dullest, most boring, tuneless albums I have ever heard.

(the singles were OK but the rest of it, my god, it ****ing stinks.)

If I were to be stupid enough to ever by a Norah Jones CD then I'm sure THAT would become the dullest, most boring, tuneless album I had ever heard........
