This is a really good article, not just because of what it says about Danyl but also because i agree with the nasty aspect to the show this year. Makes a good read for some anyway

And yet it seems Danyl and the twins are doing very well in the voting,so maybe the public aren't too happy with the way they have been treated.

I blame Cowell for most of Danyl's problems.By building him up so much at the first audition,he left him there to be shot at and the only way was down.If Cowell had held back then and since,Danyl may never have had all this negative pubicity.

It's a bit hypocritical, Jedward have been called far worse things than Danyl IMO.

Hmmmmmm, I've been trying not to be too cynical BUT Simon is aware that if a contestant starts on a high it's hard to sustain... the GBP will relish a cutting down to size... however, by and large, we further love resurrections of popularity as long as we feel it's under our own terms... methinks Simon could be playing brinksmanship and gambling that in the end we will allow Danyl to re-emerge from the ashes of 'hubris' for the win.

Very good article.

I do love the twins though, and not because I like laughing at untalented people - if that were the case I'd have loved them from their audition - but because I genuinely think they are two very funny lads. Perhaps it was the wrong show for them, but anything's possible. Who's to say that they didn't audition for another show for the great Mr. Syco and he told them to come back to XF??

I agree with what he said about Danyl. It wasn't a true sympathy vote, in my eyes, that I gave him this week; I was putting through an act who deserved another shot. He didn't come in with a sob story, we gave him one! I felt ashamed to be British after that Hitler comment, all the rubbish on here, and people actually congratulating the low life who posted it on twitter and labelling him a 'legend'. Vile.

Here's to a GOOD show Saturday. It shouldn't be too much to ask, I don't actually really dislike anyone this year although I find some more entertaining/talented than others.

Which is why I don't buy it!

I actually think Simon's using the public's "one over on him" attitude to get the twins through (and I DO like the twins, a lot actually) and get Danyl out of the show. He knew Danyl wouldn't go out on lack of talent or unoriginality - he got criticised for changing songs TOO much, so he showed blantent and clearly OTT favouritism for Danyl. This was obvious when he gave Danyl a standing ovation on Saturday - it was an awful performance. I could understand a few words of support "It's been a difficult week, blah blah blah, you recovered well from half way through, blah blah blah, you need to do better next week but I'm sure the public will vote for you!" He didn't. He, once again, reverted back to his trick of over-egging the pudding. And HE KNOWS that it gets to people. He owns the show, he's going to be tipped by people about what's being said on forums such as this, even if it's not read by himself.

On the converse, he's playing Devil's advocate with the twins. He loves them really. You can see it in his eyes if you watch him during their performances or when he talks to them. He's not really angry, he just pretends to be because it's "a singing competition" He wants them voted through every week. I'm not complaining about this one though, I do too.

How is that hypocritical? Unless Danyl told the twins to suck it up and ignore it, and then didn't himself?

I'd say it was just twice as horrible.

Spot on. And he wants Danyl out, as you say. Simon's backing Olly—and I suspect he has done since Day 1.

I've seen a lot more vitriol towards Danyl. Some of which has been personally aimed at him by unhinged weirdos saying he should die and stuff. I'm not talking about DS here, btw.

Agree completely that he secretly loves the twins lovecat,he obviously has dollar signs flashing in his eyes when he looks at them.If he wants them to go far in the competition,he should keep up the attacks on them (and I have a suspicion he is instructing Friedman to do the same).

That's an interesting theory you have on Danyl ; overpraise him all the way in order that the public turn against him.I wouldn't put anything past Cowell

The most interesting thing about the article is that the DM is a bit behind the media curve as far as Danyl is concerned. X Factor: John and Edward and Olly Murs enjoy red carpet attention in the Mirror is more representative. Note which contestants are mentioned—and which one isn't.

Then there's the front page of Showbiz in The Sun. Three articles referencing Jedward, including one photo. One Stacey article ("I broke Joe's rib"), with photo of Stacey and reference to Olly in the teaser. In further Syco news, Holly Willoughby shows off her award for services to sausages, and even little Hollie Steele from BGT gets a photo and promo for her Christmas single ("Cowell gets a kick in the bawls").

Once again, conspicuous by his absence. . .

there has been articles in both those papers this week about Danyl, the obvious bit is that Olly and the twins are being championed by the tabloids that not news. I wasnt putting the article up as pro Danyl hype anyway i thought it was a good article which tells the essence of truth about the spitefulness of X Factor this year

i also think it is really damning to our culture that the hot topic of the day is the twins rather than other, far more important news articles

The writer is right though Danyl's singing skills do leave his pop wannabee rivals floudering, that's why it is all so sad.
Yet again ,as a country we go for the' Eddie the Eagle 'option because ,somehow, true talent leaves us feeling uneasy.
How dare he be so good?, that's just about it really.

Typical over-blown shitsplat article from the Daily Mail, latching onto the only middle class contestant (Danyl) and making out like he's been hugn, drawn and quartered by Cowell.

Cruelty this ain't... people have a choice about going on the show. Telling some slob from Birmingham or where ever that their singing is shit isn't cruel.

I agree Cowell is to blame for the way some have reacted to Danyl! still can't understand why no one has picked up on the arrogance though from Jamie last week, running around the walkway behind the judges after he finished his song, wasting precious live TV time?

Don't very often (if ever?) agree with the DM but I do on this account. The whole thing this year has felt like a circus performance. k, so the article is obviously written as opinion rather than fact, but I agree with the opinion.

"Rather than the usual wan British copy of some American idol"

That comment is poetic. That's exactly what Danyl is.

Not exactly an unbiased article is it? With such phrases as "chief victim has been Danyl Johnson", "Danyl is totally original", "Danyl's flawless performances", "evidently sensitive, caring man" it has Max Clifford written all over it.

Had the article also highlighted the relentess press stories of Jedward in the media, the allegations of encouraging young fans to flash at them, the crotch grabbing from the windows, the spreading of head lice etc, to highlight the way the programme is going wrong, then he may well have had a point. As it is it is simply another puff piece in the relentless quest for any sort of media attention to keep the publicity machine in full flow.

I never thought I'd agree with the Daily Mail.

Its changed. Its no longer the Gareth/Will lovable Pop Idol which had genuine innocence and goodwill. Its a septic, toxic meatgrinder which can destroy peoples lives. Its too big, there is too much audience involvement and certainly too much press stirring.

The Star and NOTW are not newspapers any more (have they ever been?) One is a porn rag the other is a showbiz gossip sheet. They have stirred it up with a mammoth spoon this year.

Simon Cowell has to take abit of the blame. The competition between the judges has turned septic in their will to win. Each one trying to undermine the other. Danyl has had it rough from the start and the homophobic jibe from Danni set the tone. Cheryl has also given him a rough ride. Saying "I just dont get you" undermines him without providing any reason. Its killing someone off for nothing.

For this reason I think X-F like the Jade BB has jumped the shark. This is the point of no return.

I hate to say this but the DM got it very very right.

Since you have been one of the ones villifying Danyl from the beginning I am not surprised that you find it biased.

From a neutral standpoint his treatment has been disgusting. But as one of the leaders against him you wouldnt see that...
