Sugababes - About A Girl - Reviews and Chart Discussion
How amazing is this track? Very.
I've got a CDQ rip of the track, and the original version, and honestly think the 4.0 version is vastly superior to the 3.0 one. The airy-ness of Jade's vocals are better suited to the track: they match the music better than Keisha's vocals, and make the transitions between verses and choruses much more seamless too, especially the "y'all" bits. Really like the beat and fast pace the song has, it's RedOne after-all and the guy know dance-pop better than anyone. The only disappointment is there should have been a "break-it-down" dance-off outro at the end of the track, or possibly after the middle-8. Hopefully the live mix will have something like that, so the girls can do the dance moves to the song, without compromising their vocals. 5/5 Seriously cannot wait to hear the new version of Wear My Kiss, if they've improved it just like they have with this track. |

I really like it - it's a shame there is still so much negativity about them.

Hopefully it will go top 5. I think it would have been a number 1 if released in January or Febuary. Its all about dates really. But I think SB4.0 do have a shot at being great if Amelle can get over her demons.

The lyrics do make it a good potential lead single for the US market though. Heidi is the fashionable one, Jade is the party-girl, and Amelle is the crazy bunny-boiler.
And it finally explains what the "Suga" in "Sugababes" stands for... APPLE PIE! |

Leona will get the number one spot. Only the Black Eyed Peas could possibly upset that.

The apple referrences are to Eve, as in Adam & Eve, and the Girl taking over the world with the seductive bite of the apple.
Its actually a clever song really. |

That explains the random use of the word apple.

If you aren't educated on the story though you wouldn't get the lyrics. |

It's a great song, but with the lack of promotion and all the negativity, I doubt whether it will crack the Top 20!

Great song, I love the new line up - fantastic to hear three strong voices rather than two strong ones plus Keisha's weak whining (sorry Keisha fans!).
The only thing I don't like is the 'red wine' opening line in the beginning - it's pointless and blatent lifting from Lady GaGa's Just Dance (unless it was meant to be lifting from UB40!) |

The song isn't bad...it doesn't sound like the Sugababes though. I'd say top 10 at best

I'm a former Sugababes fan so i'm refusing to support this single and anything they do in the future, as we all know Sugababes have now become a brand and every single one of them is now a REPLACEMENT from the original line up, How on earth Heidi says she has every right to be a Sugababe is ridiculous, yes she was part of the group when they got their sucess but she still wasn't there from the start which still makes her a REPLACEMENT
This new song will do well based on all the hype surrounding Keisha's exit but any single after this will struggle and I have a feeling the new album will sell less then Catfights and spell an end to their ailing career once and for all My prediction for this song is number 4 and a total of 5 weeks in the top 40 total I'm hearing also that Amelle was never actually hospitalised for stress, apparently she had a bad stomach ulcer and the record label played on it to create public sympathy for her and the group and good on them it seems to have worked. |

Its actually a clever song really. About A Girl was released on Itunes Ireland yesterday, downloaded it, really good song! Don't know why there is so much negativity about Sugababes, the song is really good. It would be nice to see it get to #1. |

I really like the song but want both it and the new line-up to flop big time. It ain't the Sugababes.

It says "Red One" - and that's because it's a Red One produced hit just like Lady GaGa's Just Dance and similarly Enrique & Ciara's Taking Back My Love song...

Number 4 I think.
Its a good track and will certainly be top 5. Those wishing it won't be, will be disapointed. And you can't have ever been a fan of the group if you are so easy to slate Heidi with such ease. Keisha never got stick for kicking out Siobhan and Mutya never spoke to Keisha for nearly four years after leaving. You have to ask why. Still I suppose those who are blinkered. |

What is fact is that the last remaining founder-member was kicked out and these imposters will never sound the same as the group the true fans loved. End of. |

Sugababes were always a brand. They just had members who had voices that didn't sound like much else in the charts at the time - think Girls Aloud but with raspy vocals, less dance routines and more modest clothing. All line-ups had their pros and cons and why should Sugababes 4.0 be shunned before they've been given a chance?
Anyway, as for the song itself - I like both versions. I think Keisha's voice sort of dominated in hers though. Jade's vocals mix in more with Heidi and Amelle's and they sound more like a girl group than just 3 different soloists. I need to read the lyrics properly though - I don't get the 'stars and stripes' bit or the 'take your number never call' bit. What has that got to do with an 'apple pie' and the Eve references? It's very catchy and deserves to do well. Unfortunately other big contenders are releasing at the same time. Oh, and Victoria Sponge - Lady Gaga sings 'RedOne' in her song as well. It's just her poor diction! :P |
