Of course I'd go to my friend's parents funeral. I think anyone who doesn't support their friend at a time like that is a pretty useless friend.

“In Ireland there is a different attitude to funerals than in England, it is usual to attend the funeral of a parent of a close friend or work colleague. In smaller towns neighbours all turn out as well, as a mark of respect.”

It used to be like that in England too when I was young. Even people who didn't know the deceased would stand still in the street when a hearse went by and men would remove their hats in respect. I'm afraid over here, we've lost all respect for others.

Speak for yourself, not everyone else.

Isn't the removal usually the day before - in which case it would be on the day of the show

To be honest a lot of it over here in Ireland is just "keeping up with the joneses" crap i.e. what will people think and I've heard plenty of people over here talking about what it was like in a gossipy way - it actually really bugs me how insincere it is. I've instructed my husband that when I pop my clogs if the people don't know me then they shouldn't be let in

Yes, of course.

I think his Dad dying far more takes priority over the X Factor. Anyway, I think the burial is Saturday so its likely Louis will make both.

I have to be really honest here and say there's something in Louis' personality I don't like...I can't really make out what it is though
But I thought the show suffered for him not being there - without him it's just the Simon and Cheryl show, or else we get Dannii and Cheryl - the new best friends - ganging up on Simon.
Louis balances things out a bit, imo and is genuinely interested in the acts, which is supposed to be the point of the show.

I'm sorry it's been a rough couple of months for him, and those close to him, too.
