Dame Vera

IMO For all that is good and British (if I can say that without upsetting the PC crowd ), I think everyone should rally behind Dame Vera for No1 for xmas.

I'm too young to remember the War personally but whenever I hear 'We'll meet again' it brings a lump to my throat when you think of the meaning.

What are the alternatives? Terry Wogan! J&E (surely the Country will have tired of them by then) or the XF winner (simon will be banking on that happening, unless it's him putting up the cash for Dame Vera) .. or some other song that someone has hastely written to cash in on the xmas pennies.

Even if you don't like 'We'll meet again' or 'White Christmas' surely you could buy it and give it to an older relative, they'll love it and we can break the XF xmas song curse

I was wondering what would be the alternative to the Xfactor no one.

You may be better to chance the title to regference the Xfactor or it might get moved.

I generally want any song to be no one rather then the Xfactor one. It would be extra great to have Dame Vera in the top spot

Vera Lynn is one of those acts you will never see on the X Factor. She is too current for Simon.

Oh now what a fantastic thought Dame Vera with a Christmas number one.

Hey J&E could sing along with her.

My dad used to say Anne Shelton was the real 'forces' sweetheart' and got quite annoyed when anyone said it was Vera Lynne (history being rewritten, apparently). He was a para in WW2 and as a musician after the War once played for Anne Shelton and she was his favourite act he ever accompanied.

I'd rather see Dame Vera there than Lloyd or Lucie.

Jedward, though.... oooh... it's a toss up.

Oh I remember my mother and father watching her.
I suppose they were different ends of the 'forces Sweetheart' line. Don't forget Gracie Fields.

Wouldn't it be great though if they had Dame Vera singing on the results show.

Finally a class act who can sing live and isn't on drugs - Michael Buble excepted.

I bought her album for my mum and listened to it with her and loved it.

It amazes me to think that she was my grandmother's favourite singer, and here I am, a grandmother myself now, and she's in the current charts. That's some record isn't it?

Coming back to topic, I am afraid it is not even a fair competition. Whoever wins the X-Factor will be Christmas Number One. 13.5Million Viewers last week displays the sheer power of the show. No-one else stands a chance, go check the bookies odds, X-Factor for Chrimbo number 1 is currently 1-6 Odds On!

It would be lovely to teach them a lesson though wouldn't it? I would love to see "anything else" as #1, and Dame Vera would be absolutely perfect..............
