What is the best way to avoid missing recordings whilst away for 2 weeks. I know re-scans cause problems so what settings would avoid them?

A House sitter is the only fool proof way.

You don't have to worry about rescans they only happen if the box is manually booted. However if a power cut ocurrs while the box is in sby it stops the clock and requires a manual reboot to reset the clock. Some have used a ups to get over this problem. Me I have a nice neighbour

If the new firmware becomes available do we know if the box will ignore it until user intervention boots up the box???

I'll double up some recordings on the 9200T that sits underneath the HDR and accept some conflicts.
I had read about this before but as hummy.org is off - I needed to check here.

I have the same pair & double record everything. To be fair, I've never missed a recording but still use 'belt & bracers'

Leave it switched on.

(Unless there's another way to recover from a "power cut" without a UPS!)

Cheers,
David.

Unplug it from the wall, it will behave 100% as expected for the use case.

To be slightly more serious, I have had similar problems with the box when being away. No power cuts big enough to cause electric clocks to start flashing but the PVR certainly missed recordings over after a certain date/time while I was away for two weeks.

Here are a few pointers which seem to work for me!

Leave HDR "parked" on a channel which is active 24/7 such as BBC 1
Delete any redundant old series link requests
Check for any possible clashes using Graham's clash detector
No padding, use auto for everything
If you have the choice use a "+1" channel
For known problematic stuff such as Click on BBC News or the Zone channels use individual recordings rather than Series Link
Enjoy

When talking about standby - we mean red light on and no panel light on - i.e., not ready to record?

Why does BBC News Click cause a problem other than occasionally missing the programme because of "important" news items taking over?

Yes full sby is red light on and nothing else.

Some programmes (mostly news programmes) only have a
series CRID and no programme CRID. The hdr has a problem with this and requires each new episode to have the same series crid and a different programme crid

Lucky then that I record Click on the 9200.
