The X Factor is ruining the charts...!
Oh Brother...
07-11-2009
It has become too predicatble who will be numbe rone each week during this series of X factor.

Now while the X factor is on, no one seems to stay at number one more than one week, two with a push!

Alex one week, Cheryl probably two weeks, I bet now its JLS for one week, then Leona for one week, then X factor finalists for one week, maybe two to three weeks depending on the guests on the show.

Week after week its a guest of he show who makes it to the top of the charts and at that, they only get a short period of time at number one!

Its a bit bittersweet to see some deserving artists with great music not making it to number one and some only staying at the top for like a week!

Take Leona as an example, she probably will only be number one for a week as the x factor charity single is out the following week, so this single will probably be deemed a bit of a failure and will soon be forgotton. Just like Alex's Bad Boys, though it had huge sales, it now seems to have been forgotton. And it won't be seen as a success because it only made number one for a week, so I think the X factor is begining to backfire for its own artists.

Their chart success is being shortlived and I fear once the X factor is gone this year, their follow up singles will fail to make an impression!

Most of this year there have been one week #1s, this is probably due to a lot of major acts releasing big singles and trying not to be in competition with other major releases, so everyone gets a week at #1

The top 40 has become pretty meaningless anyway, made up by the same artists who at any one time can have 2 or 3 songs in it, they're all producing the same sort of music as all their songs seem to get done by the same producers.

The Christmas Number One Single has been ruined, and many pop artists do need chart success and that is part of the deal re album release.

Good artists will sell albums regardless of getting to number one. In fact getting to number one in the single charts is pretty pointless these days, due to the low sales and short lived attention.

I only look at album charts these days. The best acts always sell more albums than singles.

To be honest, that may have been true as recently as a couple of years ago, but recently the singles market has increased markedly, whilst album sales have dropped.
Relativly cheap downloads have boosted singles sales, whilst many people also tending to 'cherry pick' album tracks as individual downloads, rather than buy a whole album.

Single sales are up 33% this year, albums are down 14% compared to 2007.

What passes for music ruins the charts. They've been irrelevant for years.
