Ok. So I know people read trashy newspapers, but it's always frustrated me that people post what they read in these papers on here and assume it must be true.
To make it worse, the Digital Spy team are doing it as well, in their "news" columns

WHY ?
When we all know that 90% of the time the Sun, the Star etc are just making it all up.
Don't we ?

Gossip is fine, but I wish people wouldn't take these stories so seriously.

DS has always "acquired" their news stories from other sources.

I don't even buy papers anymore; the news that is displayed on here is via a link and that is all I see of these
s........b

I would no more waste my money on their rags than fly.

A good example is the story that Joe attacked Lucie with a tambourine. And it was nothing to do with Joe even. A non-story and they still get that factually wrong.

True. The news items on DS and links is as close as I care to get to the gutter press.

TheFletch, I agree with you 100%. It does seem to me that DS, like the tabloids is feasting ever more wildly on stores fed to them by SyCo "sources". Does anyone really believe that today's story about Bon Jovi and Jamie Archer has not been planted simply to add to the pre-programme hype ?

The reason why DS publish them is the same reason that the tabloids themselves publish them - people want to read them. The Sun is Britain's best-selling newspaper.

And the reason they're popular is the same reason that people repeat them here as if they're true - people are more interested in having their beliefs and prejudices confirmed or in having some juicy gossip to be giggly/enraged/shocked and appalled over than they are in taking the time and effort to discover the usually more mundane truth. Lies and exaggerations are often more exciting and fun than reality and take far less work to believe, so people choose lies and exaggerations.

It's the same reason that Derek Acorah's got a job.

Can't believe you lot. Do you still buy newspapers? What on earth for? It's just some hacks paid to make up stories that sell their rags.

Has anyone tried to 'leak' a story to the papers to see how far it gets?
Could be quite interesting.

Send in an anon tip that Stacy is really a man, or that Lloyd is the child of Charles n Camilla ?

The tabloids rely on these forums. They scan the threads, pick up a few interesting points , re write and exaggerate them and sell them back to you....... to discuss.

It's often quite amusing. Certain forum members slag the red tops when their favourites are criticised and link to them when their favourites are praised. It's "Who believes the gutter press?" one day and "According to the Star..." the next.

The media coverage of this year has crossed the line into slander several times.

Digital Spy is an online tabloid. Why are you surprised?
