I've always considered the judges behaviour as much of a "performance" as what's going on out on the dance floor.
They always try to draw attention to themselves, or as you might say attempt to; "big up their part."
I've said many times about their comments after some performances, that none of them are bright enough to often come out with remarks with so much "spontaneous" alliteration and onomatopoeia. It's either been scripted for them or they've been working on it during the week, waiting to use it on any couple for whom on the night they might deem it appropriate. As the old comedian Jerry Lewis once said; "You can't beat carefully rehearsed spontaneity."
In the end, despite the "show" of emotion over what might be considered the wrong result, I doubt if they are really that bothered. They're really too busy enjoying the gravy train, something of which they could never have dreamt, eight years ago and hoping they won't get fired, or that it will ever end.
