Just wondering. Looks like Jamie was offered a support slot with Bon Jovi and had to turn it down as he is contracted to Cowell - even though he's not won anything yet.

Once thru to the final 8 which he is under contract til after the show and cannot do anything for around 6 months I think ie release wise.
Sad really for Jamie he probably wanted to jump at the chance. |

Bon Jovi's tour is in June so he will be able to do it if he doesnt win, I think.
If he does win, I don't expect he will want to do it.

Just from something else I have seen on here - until end of tour time, I think, unless you've been further signed to his label.
I work in publishing, and the difference between the music business and the publishing business is immense although there isn't much difference between the individual 'artist' and their fans - each produces work for the general public to buy or not as they wish. Yet while authors get immense freedoms, music artists are tied by their soul. While authors retain immense control over their body of work, musicians lose it regularly. I have to admit I am intrigued by the contractual arrangements as demonstrated by X Factor. What people will do for fame ... sell their soul. Jamie has found out just how tightly he is bound. I like Jamie, he's my favourite in this series, but I sincerely hope he doesn't win, and that he regains some artistic freedom at the end of the tour. |

Once the X-Factor show and tour ends there will be a 3 month option for the record company to decide if they want to sign anyone. If they don't take up the option in that time then they are free to go elsewhere.

They are signed to Modest until after the tour, regardless of whether you are on the tour or not. Then Modest release them from their contracts if they choose not to keep them on. Until then they can't sign with another management company and every personal appearance they do until they are released has to be approved by Modest first, which also means that Modest get money from this.
Its the best way of earning Modest money and they know that by the time April rolls around, all interest in contestants will have waned |

How have musicians got themselves into this? These contracts are crucifying. Man, they need a good union.

Dont know if its changed this year but the 12 finalists are contracted to SC till the last day of the tour which is March? He then has the pick of who he wants to sign the rest go and find their own way.

Is there is also a clause that they cann't release any material - assuming they are not with Syco or SBMG until a year after XF?

Well lets hope he does not win then, as Bon Jovi doing the 02 is one fine job to be offered to support and I for one hope he goes for it, or as has been said is *allowed" to.
I like Jamie and it must be so annoying to not be the owner of your own destiny anymore as once you enter this show your hands are tied behind your back as has been said for months on end. |
