What I think is interesting is the *huge* variations in people's reactions to last night's show. I think this goes to show how very average the standard is this year. They are all of a similar ilk - we can choose favourites, but there's no consensus because it's all down to personal preference rather than one of the acts being head and shoulders above the others. And this year, more than any other, we're seeing votes based far less on performance and far more on personality and likes/dislikes. When people talk about Danyl, it's to discuss how cocky he is; Stacey - it's all about her personality and not her singing; Olly - his likeable persona again, rather than the singing.
There's always an *element* of this of course, but this year it's far more noticeable, and I'm convinced that's because the standard is generally quite mediocre this year, and the live shows are quite bland and underwhelming. When there's no obviously great voices or performances, we're having to fall back on other factors to make a decision on who we like/don't like.
