In What Way Are The Twins Entertaining?

Well, it's plainly obvious that a great many people seem to find John and Edward entertaining in some way, but I'm genuinely at a loss as to why exactly? In what way are they entertaining? For me personally I find no entertainment value in them as I find them neither good nor terrible, just bland. When they're performing each week I get bored really quickly, watching them, and get up to go to the loo or make a cup of tea as I just don't find anything remotely interesting about them to keep me watching them. They just don't hold my attention. Never mind whether they can actually sing or not, I just don't find anything funny or amusing about them. I honestly can't see the appeal in them and I'm curious to know what it is about them that so many people seem to find entertainment value and why they're getting so much attention?

Take an act like Same Difference, for example. Sure, they were cheesy and a bit naff and not the greatest singers in the world, but I found them endearing and amusing to watch, and in particular they had a certain charisma and personality to them, and a certain warmth to their personalities. But with John and Edward all I see is blandness as an act. They totally leave me cold and indifferent.

I have nothing against them as people (I don't know them personally, so why would I?), I'm talking about them as an act - a music or entertainment act or otherwise. To me I just find them totally irrelevant but it seems I'm in a minority as everyone seems to think they're brilliant entertainers or something. I just don't find anything in them to hold my attention.

Like I said, it's nothing to do with the fact that they're bad singers - there are tons of terrible singers shown in the audition stages and I find a lot of those hilarious and funny to watch. Very entertaining. If those two models who called themselves Dream Girls, for example, were in the final stages I'd find them hilarious to watch as they really WERE bad!! Still wouldn't want them to win, of course, as I'd want someone with actual talent to win, but I'd find them entertaining, for a while, in a "so bad they're almost good" sort of way. But the twins don't fall into that category for me.

So anyway, as I said, I'm just curious to know exactly what it is about the twins that people are finding entertaining?

You have a TV? That is what we find entertaining!

Why sit here posting things about the act as you have already stated that you don't find them entertaining.

Watch the whole Ghostbusters event and that is what we find entertaining.

I really do fail to see the point of this thread. It really does just come across as "I've decided that nothing about them is entertaining so unless you can prove to me that something is, that I am right"

Or shall we sit here naming every step from the start of the song to the end of the song, only to have you say that it is not entertaining.

Some people find Karaoke entertaining but you would just say it isn't as the people can't sing very well or not at all.

The answer is to stop judging this show on singing as it's not a singing show.

Sorry, but I can't see any useful debate here.

Well, spaceygal clearly stated it isn't about the singing. He/she liked Same Difference and found Dream Girls hilarious.
Did you read the whole post or does a little negativity towards John & Edward get you riled?

I'm in 100% agreement with spaceygal.
I don't find them entertaining, funny, good singers... just nothing - bland.

The fact people fall for this every year - Daniel Evans, Same Difference, The MacDonald Brothers - just like the teenage girl vote, is laughable.

I can just imagine Simon laughing in all your faces as you waste 35p per call you make for these joke acts just to line his pockets.

Your money and your entertainment but them acts will never win. When it gets serious (final 4 - 5) that's when the public become "sensible" and totally neglect the "funny, let's annoy Simon/Louis" act(s).

Waste of money as Simon knows the public will "wake up" to the nonsense acts in the end - said it himself last night on The Xtra Factor.

I suppose you just either get them or you don't. They have something that attracts some people but not others.

I don't mind paying to vote for them at all. At 35p a time it's pretty cheap for a couple of evenings of entertainment.

Sorry but I find this reply pointless also, the OP was someones valid point and a valid opinion.

This whole entertainment thing is just a load of BS, it is a singing competetion as we constantly get reminded when one of the less flamboyant singers misses a few notes.

If John and Edward had come on a middle of the road show as credible artists and performed these versions then people would be saying what the hell is that. Basically they are so bad it is almost funny and that is what people find entertaining but after a few times it starts to become very sameish and a bit tiresome.

Thje only people voting for them are people who want to ruin the credibility of the X Factor because they don't like how it is taking over the charts and to try to put one over on Simon Cowell. In the real light of day after everything has finished nobody will give a toss about John and Edward and probably about 1% of these "people" going on about how how good they are will buy there album.

It is an absolute joke along with those people keeping them in, you are playing with lives of credible artists who may have a better chance of a career. I'm sure you wouldn't find it funny at work if someone came in to work with you but messed everything up and did a really terrible job. How entertaining and fair would that be??

They are entertaining in their ability to get people who don't find them entertaining worked up in a very entertaining kind of way.

Simon also said on the Xtra Factor that it's not just a singing contest, despite saying in the main shows that it is!

I have read and re-read this post and reached the conclusion it adds nothing useful to the debate. You should have saved the wear on your typing fingers.

I do find them funny, they're amusing to watch. It's just a bit of fun. They can't sing for toffee though!

Oh right, that would explain all the singing then . I agree, J&E are boring.

They are incredibly cute. I am fully admitting to having a 'mothers' awwwwww thing' about them. I just love the twins. I can't help it. I look forward to them most of everyone this year. I'll miss them when they go.

I do wonder about how they would be presented and promoted if they won? I don't think it's in the twins' best interests to win though. I reckon they'd be best coming 4th or 3rd.

EDIT: Although, I haven't voted at all this year, so don't blame me for contributing to the twins' staying in.

Thanks for telling us YOUR OPINION ONLY!

What is it with the only my opinion goes posters?

It's called the X factor not any word that says "singing"

And the producers actively pick massive morons that can't sing to go through in what YOU claim is a singing contest.

THE PRODUCERS DO NOT AGREE WITH WHAT YOU THINK!

"This whole entertainment thing is just a load of BS" The producers don't think so!

It is very much a Saturday night entertainment show in the producers go out of their way to provide light entertainment at any cost. (They even pop the most entertaining act on at the end constantly as it makes entertainment sense when making a TV show - A cold hard fact, not anyone's opinion!

This whole "let's change reality" as we hate the twins is amusing at the very least.

Trying to re-brand the whole programme to exclude the twins hasn't worked and will not work as the actual show makers/producers know what they are doing and what they are trying to do and I would imagine that they are laughing hard at the twin detractors.

Please could you enlighten me as to why a show in which the prize is a recording contract would not be a singing show? I'd be absolutely fascinated to hear the answer.

I'll repeat: THE PRODUCERS DO NOT AGREE WITH YOU.

That IS the bottom line. You have got it wrong and are watching the wrong show as the producers are making AN ENTERTAINMENT show. (It INCLUDES singing, but a majority of a lot of other things as well)

But you showed up your own post a bit there: You have CHOSEN to see the programme that way as it excludes J&E who you then can't wait to tell us "are boring". - That clearly exposes your motive for CHOOSING to see a programme that is not there and one that the shows producers do not try to produce.

You might have covered it in your posts, but as I find your entire thesis completely untenable, I'd like some slightly more unbiased evidence. Your opinion, sadly, does not constitute unbiased evidence.

I think all the contestants should have 'talky' bits in their perfomances too or it will be seen to be unfair. Louis has to be informed of this.

Because they can't dance, can't sing, have horrible hair and wear matching clothes at 18...
It's entertaining, maybe not in the way it's intended admittedly- I think they'd rather be singing Westlife and Blue... Makes it even funnier
