BobCat said a while ago in one of the updates that part of the reason it was taking so long was because they were inserting major new software features into the HDR that had not been seen previously. It appears the only major software feature is iplayer which we already knew about.



My apologies here it wasn't so much create as move.

You have an automatically generated folder from a series recording under the main file location.

You've recorded eg. The Natural World Series of prgrammes

You have a Category folder for Natural History.

You want to move the Natural World Programme folder into the Natural History Folder as a sub folder so keeping your file tree tidy. When you go to File Manager, the move option is greyed out for the folder to folder transfer.

It would be nice to move them but I don't find it a big chore to just create a new folder where I want it and move the program(s) across. For a series I would probably want to rename the original automatically created folder anyway so it is in some ways easier to just make a new one.

Its a big chore when there are 5 or 6 or more programmes in a series as its move, wait for it to be copied, go back select the next one, move, wait etc.

To me that's a major pain especially when I should be able to move the whole folder simply inside the directory.

Use edit mode, select all the individual recordings, and move, take no time at all.

You really are making a mountain out of a molehill.

I would class the inclusion of the Auto Delete function a major new software feature.

I see what you mean, it does seem a tad inconsistent as you can do precisely what you want from an external drive folder structure..

Sorry, but the obvious question .....what's the problem with simply going into the folder itself and selecting all the files individually, making a group to transfer? Then pressing the green transfer button. OK it's not strictly speaking folder to folder but not exactly taxing... it's fast too.

Edit mode let's you grp select files for multiple copies/deletes. And now you can go away and do something else like recording a programme

Since updating, I now find the picture on my Pioneer plasma has been stretched vertically. Settings are the same as previously - 16:9 and Auto. I have been unable to find a combination of setup on the Humax and Pioneer that gives the correct display.

Is anyone else finding the same problem?

Yep - I had this problem with my TV (a Panasonic).

You need to set the box to 4:3 Pillar Box and the TV to 16:9 (not Auto or 4:3).

This gives the same result as before - 4:3 channels on Freesat are shown correctly as 4:3.

If you set the TV to Auto then you'll get too much overscan.

what have you got Pioneer plasma picture set to mine is on "standard full" and its the bottom right button on remote control here when on the freesat channel

From the sounds of it I think I'm skipping the update.

So far it seems its broken the aspect ratio on the picture and the sound control on optical out, pretty fundamental if you ask me. Especially as by setting the box to 4:3 and the tv to 16:9 your forcing the tv to stretch the picture thus possibly distorting faces etc.

What has it introduced?

An iplayer that personally I have no interest in using - why connect your box to the internet and watch even lower quality streamed material than broadcast and expose yourself to a virus risk. How long before someone writes a worm to ping for Humax Sat boxes and then auto infect with a destructive payload - I'll give it a month!

A fix for the delete bug and auto delete.

The deletion bug I can live with quite easily (you just delete another day when the box is inactive) and auto delete sounds like a nightmare - just give the box free rain to make mistakes deleting possibly wanted material. A larger external hard drive is a much more preferable option. With around 500GB free I never have to worry about creating space and I know it will never overwrite anything I want.

Personally I'd rather have functioning sound and picture than those features.

Also to me I'll never be satisfied until there's a proper fully functional file structure and fully functional non freesat mode with EPG.

This setting is fine. The 4:3 setting on the PVR still outputs widescreen stuff in 16:9, but 4:3 stuff in 4:3, which is correct. It's what I've always had my PVR set to. If you set the PVR to 16:9 then it stretches 4:3 stuff.

I understand the correct settings should be:

TV Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Display Format: Auto

You shouldn't be setting 4:3 on the box then 16:9 on the tv as otherwise the Humax is squashing it to 4:3 and the tv is stretching it back to 16:9. Just because it appears right doesn't mean it hasn't had its aspect changed or is as good as if unadulterated.

Setting the Display Format to Auto doesn't change my picture at all on 16:9 channels compared to 4:3 - you cycle through them and nothing changes.

However, setting the Display Format to auto means that programmes that are broadcast in 4:3 are stretched by the TV. If you set Display Format to 4:3 then 4:3 programmes are in 4:3 and 16:9 programmes are untouched (exactly as per Auto, proven by cycling through and seeing no chance as you cycle through).

My "screen ratio" is set to 16:9 on the PVR.

I'm a Beta tester, and although my USB key has been ordered, and was expected to arrive today....it hasnt. Maybe tomorrow.

There has been no change to aspect ratio.....suggest you read up the release note for V10 on the Foxsat HD, and posts in that forum re AVinfo frame

Certainly on my TV set to auto, and the HDR screen ratio set to 16:9 and aspect set to 4:3 Pillar box, it is exactly the same as it was before.

Mine was set to Standard Wide, changing to Standard Full fixed the problem. Strange, previously there was no difference between Full and Wide when watching through the Humax.

Btw I was streaming the iplayer HD via my xbmc to my nice new 40" sony tv the other day and it looked rather good. I don't quite understand why people keep slagging off the iplayer update.

The aspect ratio problem is only apparent to me if I set V.Format to 'Original'. If I select 1080i then all works OK except that it then uses the (IMO) inferior Humax upscaler.
With 'Original' on 576i channels I have to manually select either 4:3 or 16:9 on the TV depending on the channel content to get the correct aspect ratio.
This was never a problem before!
Anyone want to buy a HDR? (Well actually not just yet, I'm gonna have to put up with it till I get the lounge decorated but then it is definitely going on flea-bay.)

Think I'll monitor the forums and see what everyone makes of Sagem's models due for release soon.

It's a shame because I could have lived with most of the issues/niggles with the HDR but the big one for me is the not recording after a power cut bug - it seems I'm being picky for wanting a PVR which I can leave unattended for 2-3 weeks at a time without risk of a power cut

I see no reason at all why it would not be easy to write a worm to seek out HDR's connected to the internet and then trick them into thinking more space was needed for a recording thus turning the auto delete function against the box itself either by tricking the box into thinking a huge amount of space was needed for an imminent recording or by sending repeated smaller recording space requests thus tricking it into deleting files one by one.

This isn't a Sky box connected to a normal telephone line. In the case of the iplayer you're connected to the internet and thus potentially vulnerable to anything it can throw at you.

Not according to the Humax manual. If you set the Display Format to 4:3 then 16: 9 is letterboxed. If it isn't then something is stretching it.
