Louis and Dermot
I thought, despite my annoyance with Louis at times, that he was completely right to have a go at Dermot last night.
I like Dermot, he can be very funny at times, but one thing I do not like is his "insight" into the contestants' performances. I think he is completely right to stick up for the contestants, it is part of why he is there, but sometimes he makes an effort to contradict what the judges are saying and play the judge himself, which I don't think is on. He has been doing this more and more this series. At the end of the day, like Louis said, they are judges and he is a presenter. By all means stand up for the contestants but don't step on people's toes. If I was a judge, there for critiquing the performances, I would get pretty annoyed at Dermot always giving his "expert" opinion and it was only a matter of time before one of them spoke up. Unfortunately, it was Louis, so most people as far as I can see are taking Dermot's side, but I think he had a very valid point and was right to be annoyed. If Simon, Cheryl or Dannii had said the same thing then people would be taking their sides. Thoughts? Who was in the right? |

Louis was right.
Dermot tends to just stick up for the contestants, no matter how bad the performance. He also said nothing when Cheryl made a rather bitchy comment to Danyl last week, when a supportive comment was actually needed. Dermot shouldn't contradict the judges valid opinions on a performance - after all, that's what they're there for! |

I was only half listening as I was tidying up but from what I did hear I thought as Dermot has to be the interaction between the judges and contestants he therefore had every right to say Joe has proved himself the rounded popstar in his opinion. Even though Dermot is the presenter doesn't mean he can't have an opinion on what he hears. Louis shouldn't have pulled him up live on air, a quiet word afterwards would have sufficed. Louis made himself look childish getting narked about it.

Whatever the rights or wrongs, I don't think Louis was in good form yesterday, right from the opening shot when he couldn't manage a proper smile. I'd imagine it had something to do with him being at the funeral of Nicky Byrne from Westlife's father yesterday. Not having the best run of it at the moment.

I like it that Dermot speaks his mind - yes he's a presenter but he's not a robot and he is entitled to his opinion. Kate Thornton was always too politically correct IMO.

I think Louis came off looking bad here.
