Just read that piece of news elsewhere - scary stuff.

Let's hope the lovely Laila gets the all clear.

She's feeling tired, so one of many tests a doctor will authorise is liver function. How on earth this routine blood test equates to a "cancer scare" is beyond me. What irresponsible reporting.

I scanned this story and based on the source was sceptical. If it is true, I hope all is okay with her.

I really hope it's not true, but if it is true I want her to pull out of the competition. Even though I love her, her health is much more important.

Yep - reads like a normal blood test to me (given that its in the NOTW).

Ofcourse I hope she is fully fit too, I just find the leap from "feeling tired" to "liver cancer" extraordinary and as I said, irresponsible.

i think she's probably depressed. imagine being stuck for weeks on end in a room with anton. he's bad enough under normal circumstances, but he's excelled himself at awfulness this year. poor laila. she deserved much better.

Notwithstanding it's the NOTW, I'll keep an open mind...bearing in mind how sceptical I was about Goody.

Oh I agree. Not surprising though based on the source and indeed totally irresponsible.

That, of course, is your opinion though doesn't seem to be shared by too many given their evident popularity in the competition and the fact they've still not been in the dance-off when only rarely near the every top of the leaaderboard. Given how many stories attempting to smear Anton have been pulled, retracted, or apologised for by newspapers in recent weeks I think I'll take all this with a pinch of salt. !

By the way, all SCD celebs have extensive medicals shortly before training; given that this story first started to emerge some weeks ago it's asking a lot to believe that something could have developed this quickly. But Laila really ought to choose her friends more carefully; does she have any who don't blab?! And there are two explanations alone in today's NOTW for her weight-loss; one, the cancer, the other - in the magazine section - the dancing itself. 7lbs lost; goodnes know what Ricky Groves is suffering from given he's lost 2 stone!

Obviously should there be any basis whatsoever to it, though Mr Weatherup is not renowned for recognising the truth, then I am sure we would all join together in wishing her every success with fighting it.

I really don't like it when papers run stories speculating about a celebrities health, surely even those in the public eye deserve to go to the doctors in private

Agreed, but that's assuming that it was someone other than Laila who disclosed this information to the NOTW. Given her close relationship with the paper, especially James Weatherup (and the fact that she dated its previous Showbiz Editor, Rav Singh, for a long time) it's extremely unlikely it was done behind her back.

Arlene's Boy I don't quite understand what you're implying, but I don't like it.

I'm not quite sure how you can't like something if you say you don't understand it! What I am saying, to make it clear, is that these stories are rarely 'leaked' without the consent and knowledge of the person involved. It doesn't present her in any unflattering manner, there's no 'outing' involved so why should she object? It would be very strange to keep this information from her employers - and potentially dangerous if she needs to start a campaign against this disease - and not tell her friends to do the same with the media!

I found their dance more interesting than Ali and Brian's!
Oh, so did I.

I think Laila is potentially a very good dancer. If only she wasn't hampered by that twit that does all the talking.

And I'll bet Martina Hingis is sorry she didn't dance with Anton; she might have lasted longer than the first round!
i bet laila wishes martina had danced with anton. then this sorry mess would never have happened. and anton would be in with a chance of still having a job next year. shame.

I'm pretty sure Anton will be there next year, and I'm not even Lalia and Anton's biggest fan, but its quite clear that they get on a treat, well to my eyes anyway.

Her Paso was fantastic imo, and deserved 9's if not 8's at the very least.

I agree miseryhappiness. I think 34 should have been the minimum score

Genuinely think Anton will hang his shoes up after this series

With lifts in it the Paso was never going to achieve 8's or higher

Doubt the first part (especially with a 25-concert tour coming up next year) and can't really agree on the second! With lifts nothing higher than 8 but it really shouldn't have scored below that; 32 fairest mark and that would have put it - correctly - above the rather ordinary Natalie quickstep.
