I'm looking for a bit of advice.

Currently have a Nokia 7210 on T Mobile and looking to upgrade or change contracts to a slightly better phone.
I like the look of the Nokia 7250(i) and 6600. Are these much better than the 7210? Just looking really for one up from my current phone, maybe just like the 7210 with a few extra bits and bobs.

Any suggestions appreciated.
Cheers

7250i is basically a 7210 with a built in camera. Is this what you mean by a few extra bits and bobs.

Yeah that'll do. Looking for maybe better quality polyphonic ringtones, or is that the best for the Nokias?

Speaking as a representative for Vodafone, I can assure you that it doesn't matter how long you have been a customer for a service provider, the upgrade quote is based on two things only.

1. ARPU - Average Revenue Per User - i.e. how much you spend each month on your handset. If you spend upwards of £60.00 each month, chances are you will get a good upgrade quote. Spend about £20 and you won't get anything.

2. How long you have had your current handset. If you have had it under 12 months, the line rental will be added onto your upgrade quote.

Although not all service providers strictly stick to this, these reasons form the basis for your upgrade quotes. Don't even bother going to a dealer for an upgrade as they don't make any money on it, only for new connections.

Good Luck !!!

Thanks Banbury. Been paying approx £40 for last 6 years and seen slightly better elsewhere. I was thinking maybe the operator would be more interested in the contract rather than the phone and would be inclined to offer a decent upgrade to keep the contract.

As it happens T Mobile were quite dis- interested, just told me when the upgrade date was and then goodbye! I thought in this area of customer service they would be more willing to hold on to a coustomer whose bills are paid every month, and to be honest gives approx £500 per year.

So I will look for a new contract and a 6600 in a couple of months. I don't think I will consider staying with T-Mobile which is a shame, for the sake of an upgrade and a bit better service they will lose a long-standing customer, although my bills are obviously not high enough, as I have heard of friends getting 6 monthly upgrades.

Looks like O2 or Vodaphone for me

IMHO O2 have better price plans but you can't beat Vodafone for customer service. I've been with Vodafone for donkeys years now and my average spend per month is £30. Last year, I rang Vodafone to find out when my contract expired because I was thinking about moving to O2. The rep I spoke to got really concerned that I was thinking about leaving and got someone from the "Lifestyle" department to call me to see if they could persuade me to stay. Two hours later, I received a phone call and they made me an offer I couldn't refuse - I got a Nokia 8910i for £99 and 10% off my line rental for as long as I stay with Vodafone - now that is what I call customer service!

It's the "Lifecycle" department and they have more bargaining tools than to those "mere" cust service agents. I work in the Business side with the High Value Customers (i.e. those spending a fortune) and we can offer more to them than the ordinary consumer. But yet my upgrade quotes are always pathetic, should spend more really shouldn't I ???

LOL.

Thanks for reminding me that it is "LifeCycle" and not "LifeStyle". It's been that long now that I couldn't remember! When my contract is due for renewal again later this year, I might try and see if I can't get through to them again for another good price on a different handset. I quite fancy the Nokie 6230....

Indeed, and its that type of service that I was hoping for from T-Mobile but they seemed unconcerned. I'll give them another go before the contracts up or else I'm on my way!

Not exactly - the 7250 is as you describe, but the 7250i has an xHTML browser, an iconic menu and a few other bits.
