It's certainly good news that Live Aid - which aside from being the greatest concert and fundraising event ever held is perhaps one of the greatest human happenings ever to take place in the 20th century - is being released on DVD, although the fact that this has been announced following the discovery of pirate copies being sold seems to suggest that this could have been released some years ago.

The thing I'm wondering about this is whether the DVD will just contain the edited highlights of the concert with only selected performers being featured, or whether we'll get the full 16 hours from start to finish - I'd certainly prefer the latter, but then again a DVD set as long as that could prove to be quite expensive.

I noticed from the article above that the Band Aid Trust doesn't think that obtaining the many artists' permission for their performances to be featured will be a problem, which is ironic considering that that was the excuse which has stopped a Live Aid compilation being made for all these years; I also think that some of the artists who didn't perform to their best (most notably Bob Dylan and the Thompson Twins) may take a little more persuading than others.

The other fact contained in the article which I found most interesting was that the Band Aid Trust is still in existence when even an old edition of the Guinness Book Of Records stated that it closed down in 1992; then again, I can only assume that the income it gets these days are performance royalties from 'Do They Know it's Christmas' every Christmas time.

Nevertheless, it'll certainly be good to see all those performances again in crystal clear vision and stereo sound, which'll be an improvement for those of us who've had to make do with the fuzziness of two-decade-old tapes in the interim.

I really, really hope we get the full 16 hour package.. Four 2DVD sets containing two hours per disk sounds resonable. I would gladly pay for them. Please let it happen!!

This is what I'm concerned about as well. I taped the whole thing back in the day, and I still have the tapes. I would buy an official DVD, though, because I'm sure at least the quality of whatever they showed would be worth the money to preserve a great memory.
