The amount of hatred and venom directed at two teenage boys on these boards and in the papers is quite incredible.

It's a pissante karaoke competition which has produced one successful singer in six years.

Simon actually likes J&E, duh. Took you this long to figure out they're his cash cows in waiting?

Simon wanted J&E to stay and good on him, they're joyful, funny, entertaining and yes, talented, very talented. But most of all they in no way deserve the vile behaviour directed at them, because a girl with a sweet voice was less popular with the public on one occasion than they were.

No one's forcing you to watch the show, turn off your television then, go and do something productive.

No one's forcing you to vote, save your money for the X Factor Christmas single.

Just get a grip. They'll be plenty of time to miss John and Edward when the final two shows are upon us and tortured wailings, unfeasibly shouty long notes and mediocre shortened versions of "classics" are murdered before our ears as the final three/four battle it out to decide who will be totally forgotten by this time next year.

And yes, I do know it's a "singing" competition etc etc etc

I don't hate them, and I don't believe most people on or off these boards do either. Just because some teenage posters delineate everything into love and hate extremes doesn't mean those are the emotions felt or experienced by many.

What a slice of the GBP won't like is the sense of injustice that two non-singers are seeing off singers in a singing contest. It's like someone cheating at monopoly. And because these days people do not throw rotten tomatoes on stage, they boo instead, because it's their only way of showing their annoyance at the lack of fair play.

If the 'boys' can't take the heat - stay out of the kitchen. Especially when you know you cannot cook a thing.

It seems the public are absolute sheep in all of this.

Cast your mind back to bootcamp where Jedward "ruined the chance" of that blonde girl by singing over her part of the song.It was at that precise moment that the hate for Jedward started.Never mind the fact that she hadn't a cat's hope in hell of reaching even the final 24 ; the producers decided to portray the twins as a couple of arrogant troublemakers who would kill their own granny to get on the show.

For all we know, there may have been numerous arguments and disagreements on stage at bootcamp, which were presumaby edited out.

Unfortunately the hate for Jedward appears to be spiralling out of control.Even Susan Boyle didn't have to face a baying mob every time she sang.

"Non singer" is quite subjective.Using your criteria,I would strongly argue that Lloyd is also a non singer with zero chance of pursuing a career in the music business.

The 'let's hate John and Edward' thing is 100% the responsibility of Simon Cowell.

He was the one who branded them as "vile" and "arrogant" at the first audition.

He also said that they would be willing to stamp on their mother's head in order to be successful.

From that point on, the marketing people decided to portray them as some kind of a semi-evil two-headed monster (they gradually morphed into 'Jedward'), consistently hated by Cowell, defended by Walsh ("just because they're Irish") and barely tolerated by Cole and Minogue.

I would assume that all of this was done with the agreement of John and Edward themselves, and perhaps even against the better judgement of their parents (who have been quoted as saying "This is what they've always wanted").

As a marketing ploy, it may yet work.
But it could also end in tears.
I sincerely hope it all turns out well for them.

You strike a good point is it done with the agreement of Jedward, I'm going to say no. I believe they are being exploited as an ct for people to take the mickey out of the papers have nothing nice to say about them they are making a lot of ratings but not for any good reasons, Simon knows they're terrible but he wants them in for that reason, I wouldn't be atall Suprised if Louis think's they're terrible behind closed doors as well

Utter idiocy. John and Edward aren't "cheating" at anything. By all accounts of other contestants and those working on the show, they work harder than anyone else to rehearse and improve.

What is "unfair" about the fact that the public has thus far put their money where their mouths are and for five weeks have cast more votes for the Twins than their competitors?

Where is the "injustice?" If it exists, no one has better reason to feel injured than Lucie Jones. And what does she say? That John and Edward deserve to be where they are as much as anyone.

I have know problem with J&E, in fact, I find them quite entertaining. The anger I have heard is all directed at Cowell. He has told us time and time again that they can't sing and it's a singing competition then he goes and saves them!
If you must boo someone, Cowell is the one!

That seems to be re-writing history a bit, last week they only got more votes than Lucie.

I am not a fan of them, but it does not mean I hate them. Just because someone is not a fan of an act, doesn't mean they have such a strong hatred for them

This is what I really can't understand.

I'm taking X Factor too sreriously this year in that I'm on here chatting about it and watch it on ITV catch up if I happen to miss it, as well as watching all the backstage stuff but honestly... if people really think this is a serious singing competition, they are either deluded or have never watched it before/listened to the winner's records.

The Sun is reporting that XF bosses have banned the boys from going outside the house and have placed them under house arrest. The reaason given is that they cause too much chaos. I think that's bollocks! I think they are scared for the boys safety. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...se-arrest.html They cannot even go out to a gig without a hostile reaction. I know of BB contestants who have been beaten up on the outside by haters (Anthony Hutton and Jon Tickle) and the XF seems to have become like BB in terms of tabloid interest and audience reaction this year. Will XF bosses continue to protect the boys once the show ends and all they hype dies down?

I think XF bosses are starting to worry about being perceived as exploiting the boys for viewing figures etc . They were filmed at the gig last night apparently. Any bets that the booing is edited out for the live show? Louis Walsh was at pains to say yesterday, when he was interviewed on Irish radio, that there was only 2 or 3 booing on Sunday's show. He says the boys are having fun. Well I think you can see the strain on Edwards face in this pic, taken last night on the way to the gig. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/...45_468x711.jpg

If they are 18 they are no longer legally consider 'kids'.

I thought they were 17 bless.

That IS a sad pic! You are right, he does look like the strain is getting to him and no wonder. It all started out as a big laugh but the yob culture in this country is firing on all cylinders and sucking the joy out a harmless bit of fun.

They turned 18 a few weeks ago. I think people just call them kids because 18 is still very young to be putting up with the all the crap that's been thrown at them.

entertaining and yes, talented, very talented

entertaining in a car crash rubber necking way only and as for talented....c'mon, they cannot sing, need a backing track to cover the actual tune parts of their raps and can't really hold a choreography any better than the majority of teenage lads could....half the time you can see them looking at each other wondering what the next move is and you can almost see them shrug their shoulders before doing the same old shimmy and mad dash round the stage.

It is entertainment as in the bad auditions that are watched purely to have a laugh at someone's incompetency.

And simon does not like them....he likes the pound signs he thinks he can exploit out of them...
