What does everyone mean by chemistry? Do you mean that they suit each other as performers, that they look like they get on 'in real life' or that there is a potential for romance there?

Has to be Chris and Ola and for me they are miles ahead.

Jade & Ian would be my next choice and although they took a little bit longer to gel, they are now very strong.

Natalie & Vincent - no chemistry, but they work very well together

Phil & Katya - took a while but they 'get' each other now and work well together

Ricky G & Erin - I don't think they are on the same wavelength at all. I'm not sure Ricky likes a lot of what Erin does and to a much lesser extent he is like Craig in the sense that he thinks he is a better dancer than he actually is and I suspect this is at the root of him not gelling well with Erin, who is just getting on with the job in hand.

Ali & Brian - I don't feel any chemistry between them, but they clearly adore each other

Ricky W & Natalie - no chemistry on or off the dance floor, but they do dance well together and are a good pairing

Laila and Anton - No chemistry on or off the dance floor, but they have built a good working relationship out of the rubble from the Anton saga. I think she is probably a hard celeb to work with because she wants to be liked and succeed so much. She seems to question Anton all the time in training and I think now she feels entitled to do that given what happened between them and Anton is now unable to respond in a more natural way. The media coverage has had a huge impact on how they work together.

For me, it's not about the potential for romance.

It's about getting on well and bonding off the dancefloor, and dancing as a couple/partnership on it.

It's not about a sexual or romantic relationship to me.

Chemistry is about clicking with your partner, developing a rapport with them, so that when you dance you are performing in unison as oppose to two separate entities.

Best - Chris & Ola

Worst - Laila & Anton (i also think Jade & Ian clash a lot but they still get on if that makes sense)

I couldn't say it any better myself, so I won't even try! Brilliant summation (think that's a real word!!) of all couples - my only niggle there is Ali & Brian - I think they do have chemistry, it's just that she loses something when she gets on the dancefloor, maybe down to her nerves??

yes thats my interpretation. "getting" the other person. "sparking" - and to me if a couple has good chemistry it means that i get drawn into their dances and they are easy to watch & enjoy more

Interested to hear Jade & Ian they are one of those couples I really cant decide about - sometimes I think they are great together, on ITT they always seem to have good banter, and get along great, yet at other times they just dont seem to be gelling at all.
But having read through the thread, and interestingly folks' views on the issue of what makes good chemistry, I think that the sparks between them and the firey elements of their personalities probably go to making their chemistry even "fizzier"!

Chris and Ola and Jade and Ian seem to have great relationships. Also Ali and Brian.

I can't see anything at all between Phil and Katya.

For me, Chris and Ola have the best chemistry. I think that Ali/Brian and Natalie/Vincent have some chemistry and Jade/Ian are definitely improving theirs!

For me Ricky/Erin, Ricky/Natalie, Laila/Anton, Phil/Katya have very little chemistry.

In fact, now I think about it, I think that the chemistry between the couples this year hasn't been as good as in previous years. Just my opinion of course!

Chris and Ola obviously have chemistry and I think Jade and Ian have bags of it too - although in their case, it sometimes results in explosions in the lab!

Of the others, I'm most confused by Ali and Brian. Sometimes I think they are connecting well and at other times I don't see it at all. Their paso, for example, while technically good, had less chemistry than a brick in a bucket of water. I wonder if this is because there is an off-show connection which is hampering their on-show chemistry at times. I'd imagine that Ali isn't the sort of person who would feel comfortable exhibiting "real" feelings in front of an audience however well she may be able to "act" them.

Phil & Katya have the best chemistry. Their tango was stunning, and under-marked. They have been under-marked virtually every week. And when they do the fast Latin, I think Katya comes up with some great cheeky choreography that shows how endearing Tufnell is in not taking himself too seriously.

Everything Chris Hollins says and does I find a bit contrived. No great chemistry there, and all this 'yeah baby' business is really wearing thin.

Jade and Ian

best chemistry for me is always where there isnt a romantic connection between the couples, so Chris and Ola in this series by miles, Gethin and Camilla in series 5, Matt and Lilia series 4, James and Camilla series 3, and Julian and Erin series 2 were my faves

I love it when the body language of the pro and the celeb comes together in an ITT interview both Chris and Ola did "a mobile phone" with their hands

Agree with other posters you can spot who is getting on well as to the position the couples sit on ITT, closer the better they are getting on, also spot if the male has his arms around the back of the chair towards his partner.....................not that I've studied this of course

In total ageement, their like a Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton of strictly.

I equate Ali & Brian with actors who are married in real life, but may not necessarily have chemistry on screen when acting together.
