Now that I did see, along with many other wry looks on the training VT we saw on ITT.
To be honest a wry look is mild towards what I would be throwing his way , seven weeks of that deluded Noddy would have me throwing daggers looks at best

I'm with you there and yet people are saying she was unprofessional?

Quite a few times on the training VT or on ITT, Craig would say something and Flavia would look at the camera as if to say "What???"

I suspect she realised what Craig was like early on and just got on with the job and humoured him whilst trying to get the best out of him. I think she did a great job and managed to keep a soft spot for him as he is a nice guy. Deluded, but nice.

I don't think there'd be many 'YEAH, BABY!'s from Ola if she had Craig as her pupil ...

In fact, I think both Erin and Ola would be a damn sight harsher than Alesha was!
Yes, I think that sparks would have flown and I'm sure they would've been very forthright with him - in the appropriate place at the appropriate time. I wonder if this approach might have worked better with him and shaken him out of his odd sort of complacency? He certainly wasn't afraid of hard work, but to so little avail that I wonder if Flavia's teaching technique wasn't right for him and he'd have responded better to someone tougher?

I'm trying to imagine how being harsh with someone like Craig as his instructor would really have helped the situation. He either (a) doesn't 'hear' or 'feel' music or (b) does hear and feel it, but can't make his body respond to what he hears/feels. Neither of those conditions are really curable or teachable. He's not gonna get better.

So his instructor, as well as the judges, tells him that he can't dance ... Doesn't that just make him rubbish and depressed, rather than rubbish and quite pleased with himself for doing well by his standards?

The best I guess you could argue an instructor could do by telling him he's actually rubbish would be to turn him in to a 'having fun with how rubbish I am' contestant. Those are often a good fun part of the show, but I doubt Craig really had the personality for that. :-/

I just don't think she seemed to be much bothered. All those little looks. She seemed desperate to be done with him. I feel quite sorry for him.

I agree that Flavia didn't argue back like Brendan did but they're just different people. Flavia's quite shy and not the kind of person to yell at the judges whereas Brendan certainly is.

I think the things that were wrong with Craig: unmusical and unable to move his body elegantly, are things that just can't be taught. Also, Flav was quite tough at times - there are VTs of her being very firm with him.

It was just hypothetical musing, really, based in part on the fact that my housemate has just begun teacher training and one of the first things they were taught is that the onus is on the teacher to adapt their technique to ensure the pupils learn. I appreciate that dance might be different, in that you have to have an aptitude and Craig did not, but I do also wonder if there were any teaching methods that might have had more success with him and addressed those issues - such as posture, perhaps - that are not down to aptitude.

As I say, purely hypothetical and we'll never know.
