It depends on when you go into non-freesat mode. If the next recording is further away than the 15 min or so pre check period then 15 min before the recording is due it will warn you and if the warning is ignored swith back to freesat mode to make the recording. It can't record freesat programmes with the stb in non-freesat mode in the background so to speak. If you leave the box in non-freesat mode and turn to sby it's my experience the same thing happens but I have seen postings that this in not 100% reliable

Fingers crossed that a few non-freesat niggles have been fixed in the update, its a pretty worthless feature as it is.

Big plus is now you can do anything in non-freesat without mucking up the Freesat recording schedule

Ive never used non-freesat mode before (as i didnt want to delete the schedule).

So am i correct in thinking that you cannot watch non-freesat mode while something is recording ?

And do you still have to be careful when switching from freesat to non-freesat mode if programmes are about to record ? in other words is it possible to lose recordings when switching to non-freessat mode ?

Thanks

Yes, if you switch to non-freesat within the T-15min window of a Scheduled freesat recording starting, it will not warn you, and you will lose the freesat recording.

If you switch to non-freesat more than 15mins out from a scheduled freesat recording, it will warn you and ask you to switch back; if you do nothing, it will auto switch back to preserve the freesat recording.

Rgds.

Correct you can't use non-freesat to watch while recording in Freesat mode.

Correct a recording due very shortly won't start until you switch back to freesat mode. Just press schedule to see what's coming up before you switch modes.

I was just doing a rescan of the non-freeview channels and have come across something that I think is new.
Under the Scrambled Type there are now 3 options All, FTA and now CSA.
There is nothing that I can find in the manual so does anyone know ehat CSA means?

I suspect it means Common Scrambling Algorithm

Have timer recordings in non-freesat mode been enabled?

Bob - Sorry yes CAS.

But what does this mean and I'm sure it isn't in my manuel nor in the Humax downloadable version.

Conditional Access System, it means search only for broadcasts which are flagged as encrypted (PayTV).

Thanks for the prompt answer. I did see it was not on the list and hoped someone might have tried it out to be sure. I would appreciate you reconfirming whether your answer is based on an actual trial? Sorry to be a pain but it's a key factor to me as I returned the HDR within a week (nearly a year ago) after discovering this omission so would only buy one if it could do non-freesat timer recordings.

Yes, same as before, 1 press of Rec to Instant record, 2nd press of Rec gives some control over time.

Rgds.

Plus the use of the right/left cursor buttons gives slightly more control.

Thanks again, unfortunately though it still does not enable you to set a timer in advance in non-freesat. As the HDR remains the only freesat+ box with diseqc it's a pity.

The only alternatives for me are generic boxes (but then there is no freesat epg) or the Technisat HDFS with the new recording function via a plug in drive (but it's only a single tuner)

I can't believe that humax have no intention of implementing at least a manual timer in non freesat mode on the HDR .Its suppose to be a pvr. It can't be that difficult to do surely ,even the cheapest of the cheap satellite receivers have a timer ,whats the point of non freesat mode if you can't record from a timer , I bought a cheap sat receiver for £20 and it has one.
I just think at the £300 price tag of the HDR its not a big ask.
There are HD satellite recorders for £308 on the market that can do this and more i.e record two HD progs while watching another in HD ,have FTP, can view you tube ,download firmware updates via
wifi or ethernet etc. etc .etc.
They don't have freesat epg ? but thats all
I bought this in anticipation that it would be implemented , guess its huge mistake on my part.
iplayer well we can all watch repeats.

You need a Diablo module thingy to watch CAS programmes - think of it like paying a subscription like Top up TV -

In my mind it makes it even worse to think that the forerunner of the Foxsat HDR (Humax iCord for the German market) operates entirely in a non-freesat (generic) mode and naturally does have all the timer recording abilities. So what has happened appears to be that converting the predecessor into a freesat box has involved disabling the ability to timer record in non-freesat (generic) mode.

I understand the primary market for the foxsat hdr is a freesat market, but it remains the only freesat+ product to have diseqc incorporated. All the new ones; goodmans, sagem, panasonic have completely skipped diseqc functionality so are of no use with multi-sat / motorised setups. Humax is the only one that can be used with these but why was it necessary to disable the timer recording functions? Was it a direct requirement of the freesat spec or a Humax decision? Why has it not been addressed in the past 11 months? It would be a unique extra if Humax could still re-enable it.

Yes, I would like to be able to add non Freesat channels to my favourites list and then watch them in 'Freesat' mode and perhaps be able to create manual timers. Then the Humax PVR would be almost as good as Media Center in Windows 7 which displays programme schedule data for French, German and British channels and with a suitable card also supports DiSEqC 1.0
