The widescreen switching does not work using the Humax handset and any of the v format settings, it did before.

Its happened to me with football before and it revealed the final score. I wasnt best pleased.

Its taken them a year to do this and its clearly unacceptable and it wouldnt surprise me if this was the final update too.

It's not possible to fix this under all circumstances anyway without having 3 tuners. If a recording is due immediately following a programme finish and the tuner you are using is required would you expect the recording start to wait while you have finished time shifting. It's much safer to use chase playback

The above scenario would account for .01% of my recordings so why couldnt they fix it for the vast, vast majority of them?

All you had to do was tap in how long into the programme you were. Say 27 min, after starting playback hit 0027 that's it, hardly very difficult

It shouldnt have to be done, theres a feature to save you doing that and it doesnt work.

I give up it's not a feature that was ever advertised to work so why should it. There's loads of stuff it can do making it a uniquely capable box. It's beyond me why users have to carp on about problems that have perfectly good and acceptable workarounds. You need to get a life if you can't press 4 digits in a row.

Thats ridiculous, its a basic PVR feature that was broken, they knew it was broken as it was clearly in the list of bugs on this site yet they refused to fix it.

Refused is rubbish, they allocated the resources to other more serious shortcomings.

Last night, I was watching Spooks live.
Skipped back a minute or so, and got subtitles on I thought that had been fixed....)
Couldn't cope with that, so went to media and played it from there (Chase play).
Paused it for a bit while doing something else, so was about 5 minutes behind.
At 10:00, HDR jumped straight to live TV.
Went back into media, and it started playing from the beginning.

Never had that happen using chase play at all. Strange

This change does not bother me.
I usually watch via HDMI with my TV connected to my AMP via stereo RCA as well as the optical connection from HDR.

The volume to the TV over HDMI still can be varied but, as with any other digital source connected to my amp over digital connections like optical and Co-axial, I am used to having to use the amp's volume control.

However, recently I was watching BBC HD (stictly come dancing i think) and changed the amp over to optical input for the 5.1 sound. The sound seemed to be up and down and seemed as though the amp was confused about how to distribute the sounds to each speaker. Switching back to "TV" input (stereo distributed as pro-logicII) the sound was much better, well "dynamically" speaking.

I wonder if the Humax update has resolved some problem in this respect or was my experiance just a fault of the transmitted stream??

Sound on Strictly on BBC HD has been dia-boli-cal , especially on the Tower Ballroom week, sound all over the place, dropouts, the lot.

Its nonsense to suggest that we shouldnt pause anything that were recording.

The problem is not solved, its a very awkward workaround that shouldnt need to be done.

Yeah right, are you really that gullible that you think it took them 12 months to do a few minor fixes.

Flyer it could be naive for us to think the engineers who work for Humax in Korea are allowed 12 months to spend on one minority product from a small part of the world. I got the feeling that out of a list of all possible improvments that might be looked at, only a few on the list will get short listed and passed on to Korea for a look. Not much comfort for us I know.

It could be one minority product that could potentially make Humax a lot of money though!

This is an example of a bug that should have been on the list of fixes. I wonder if it was a simple question of not allocating enough resources because they had a monopoly and there was no hurry or need to get anything fixed quickly. Be honest, how long could this bug have taken to fix? A call to a subroutine for a message - a recording schedule check?
This could not have been a big bug for them.

All possibly true yes. We just need to figure out a way to get our peronal favourite items we want looked at on the short list sent to engineers I see this problem in Topfield and Humax products, so it may be trickier than I thought.

I think it's a lot more complex than others infer. Every time a time shifted recording is paused, fast forwarded or rewound the recording schedule and tuner allocation would have to checked for a knock on clash caused by hanging onto the current tuner beyond the current programme and potentially knocking on to multiple back to back recordings,, adding in possible single cable with loop complications as well it would be a nightmare to programme and frankly not worth the effort and potential to introduce all sorts of bugs. Perhaps the knockers would like to come up with a logic diagram showing how it would work a simple subroutine certainly won't cut it.

Why all the fuss about the latest software update. My HDR was updated with this software on the 25th October automatically over air. A quick check in the Diagnostics confirmed this.

That's the date the release version would have been cut, not the date it went OTA.

There must already be many documented routines in the Humax that already do what you have put forward as possibly needing to happen.

What for example happens with chase play which you suggest is the solution? Couldn't live play from buffer use that in some way?

If there wasn't certainly similar functionality in the box already then obviously it would be more difficult.

Why do people need to produce a flowchart to prove the logic of that?

I really don't believe it would be as difficult as you suggest Graham.
