When I turn on and go to Freesat HDMI channel on TV im getting a green screen that just stays there till I change channel then the pic comes on never had this problem before the upgrade on my pioneer plasma

Simple solution. If the viewer is watching a program that is simultaneously being recorded, the HDR switches to using that tuner and automatically starts playing back that recording as a chase play.

I agree too. I would consider many of the issues raised on this forum trivial or frivolous.
However, I consider properly working live pause a standard feature of all modern PVR's.
My 4-year old DVD Recorder has this, Sky+ has this, Sky + HD has this....
My family now consider this to be just how "things are".

I had forgotten how truly annoying this bug was until I started using the Humax PVR again.
I consider it the last remaining big issue on the platform and it pretty much guarantees Sky my continuing custom.
It is entirely unnaceptable that it was fixed ahead of entirely new featurs such a iPlayer.

Humax really need to get their act together here and issue a patch release.

Just dawned on me that the HDR recognises a remote signal from about 70 degrees either side of central.
It used to be 10 or 20 degrees, & a bit of a pain!

Anyone else noticed this improvement ?

Was this part of the plan or just serendipity ?

Forgive my stupidity but why the update from the website if it’s done over the air

Someone explained that the main download could be either but the part that dealt with with the loader could not be trusted OTA, because corruption would 'brick' the HDR.
It is only needed if you you switch between satellites.
I dont so have ignored it. I still have U 7.51

Hi Dave many thank's is that something to do with non freesat mode

If you switch satellite then the signals can not be Freesat which only comes from 28.2E for video & 28.5E for the Freesat EPG.

Its to do with DiSEqC switching between satellites.

Hmm, the change to the sound output is a little annoying, I have my Humax remote set up to control my amp, but now every time I change the volume I have to switch to amp control, previously I only had to do this for HD output.

Maybe it improves the sound output? I'll get used to it I guess...

You can already do that anyway and it's the action that is described above, it's when the programme is not being recorded but simply buffered that's the complex problem. The posters want to be able to pause and rewind etc without losing the end and not worry about chasing playback. is They want the time shift function to work flawlessly which it can't under all circumstances

No it's not. It's very dodgy trying to update a loader OTA as the slightest reception glitch could brick your box hence USB update only. There is no such problem with the fitmware as you can simply repeat the upgrade.

IOW it would be naive of us to think that Humax would allocate sufficient resources to do the job properly.

Up until recently I was thinking of ending my Humax boycott when their next Freesat box comes out. Now I'm going off the idea. I think I'd rather have a look at building my own media centre. If go the Linux route I'll be able to fix my own bugs. I guess what this shows is that trusting a private company to do the right thing is pointless. Why am I not surprised

Anyway I might as well add that I don't think Humax are anything 'special' in this. FWIW I congratulate them on being the best of a bad bunch - or at least no worse than Sky.

What is needed for this is a reasonably priced card with a countdown timer (and a battery!) that can wake the PC from standby.

I did think of building a media centre but the fact that it would involve having a PC on all the time put me off.

One of the most impressive things about the Humax is it's ultra low standby power usage (even if that is the source of the failure to record after power outages).

You can mitigate this somewhat. My server at home is plugged into a timer. Power is restored at 4pm during the week and 8am at the weekend. It automatically shuts down fifteen minutes before the power is cut every night.

Hmm - actually this suddenly points out why the Humax HDR would be no good for me. Everything possible is on a timer so has no power overnight or during the weekday. Not much good if it's going to prevent the HDR recording

My server draws around 120w which is still a bit irritating but it's not just a media centre so is excusable. It's also just an old desktop box so perhaps with effort I could get that figure down. 50w would be a good figure to aim for.

The other issue from my own experience (the server is how I have access to Freesat) is dealing with the output files. Media Centre would hopefully work around the mess that is .ts. If not then I don't want to know. I have two 'touch up' utilities I run on recordings that nearly always fix them up sufficient to play but it's a right royal PITA frankly. They both take around ten minutes per half hour of program and I haven't been able to automate the process.

A couple of questions

I have noticed that when I choose to view channels with my "favourite" channels selected, where I have deleted unwanted and changed the position of those channels It seems that unlike before this "favourite" channel settings now stays as the selected group. I am sure that before the update it used to return to the standard "TV" channels which could not be moved around. In the end I gave up using my favourite channel list as I had to keep manually changing it to my "favourite" channel grouping. Is this just coincidence or was it a noted fix? Either way it is now much more useful, whether that be something to do with how I am now using the box or if Humax have altered this

The other thing is
When I have a folder of items that have been recorded via series link I have protected that folder as a whole, not each program within the folder separately, from the possibility of auto deletion. It seems that if I have several items that I now wish to delete within this folder I can not delete those items without going back and unprotecting the whole folder. I know I could protect each program separately within that folder but as each item is added in the series it seems quicker and easier to protect a whole folder so as nothing in that unwatched folder would get deleted if the disk becomes full, whilst away say.

I'm not even going to attempt your favourites question, never used them, found them a waste of time without it replicating in the EPG.

Re the Protect/Auto Delete - Yes, if you protect the folder, it needs releasing before deleting anything. Either protect the folder for ease/safety, or protect files so that you can delete individually. Don't forget that you can use FM/Edit Mode to Protect/Release multiple files at once.

Now that I've had a good play with Auto Delete, and tested that it works as it says it does, I've turned it off. Like you, I will probably only use it when I go away.

So, I'm not protecting anything whilst I'm around to monitor things. That way, I can delete when I've watched, and let the Auto Folder Removal clean up the folders in my Media list for me.

I think it just needs a bit of getting used to, and some lateral thinking of the best way to use it for you.

Sorry to appear thick, but I've just found this thread. What's this about downloading an update from the internet on to a USB stick? I thought updates were downloaded over the air.

My box is showing an update dated 25 Oct 2009. Software version is HRSFCI 1.00.11 and the loader version ins 07.52. (I remember previous version was 1.00.03 as originally loaded on the box).

Gosh, there's been lots of discussion of this here, but ...

Humax put the firmware & the loader files up on their website if anyone wanted to get a jump on the OTA, or needed the Loader to do a single cable update if they were stuck on 7.51.

You've got the latest firmware, but not the latest loader which cannot go out OTA. You only need this if you use diseqc, as there is a change in the installation wizard for it.

You have the latest firmware, but not the latest loader. You only need to update the loader to 7.53 (only available by using a usb stick) if you use the hdr with multiple satellites other than 28.2/28.5E using a diseqc switch

Just found this thread.... didnt realise the update had happened.... any way I have the same issue with my LG but that using a HDMI matrix. The fix I switch from the HDR to another source and back so I'm guessing its some thing to do with the HDMI security - eg token swapping.

As reported elsewhere, I have exactly the same problem since the update. I have a completely different TV to Alan W.'s (Philips LCD) so I don't know what Humax have done.
I'm surprised more people haven't complained about the same problem. Pressing just about any button on the remote gets the picture back (it doesn't have to be the channel up or down button) so it's not much of a problem, but definitely a backward step for an update.

I have the same issue (although my screen is blank, not green). The HDR is connected directly to a 5 year old Hitachi 32" plasma via DVI.

It sounds to me like the HDR is turning off its output in order to save the screen from damage and reduce power consumption, in which case it's not a bad feature.
