No problems here on my Panasonic.

Back from another trip. Switched on the HDR and got an update from Freesat, presumably the CBS channels. Wanted to set up a single item record of "Click" for this Saturday and errrr I can't. My EPG is resembling a Swiss cheese! Tried the above tip and it seems no better.

I assume something changed with the software update as there is no longer the loss of sound when entering the guide and there is no retrieving information message. However as it stands my EPG is abut as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.

Are you recording?

Stop any recordings and press 'guide'. Sound and audio should stop and it will download a new epg.

Aha! Yes there are series links active at the moment. Won't stop it, but will check later. Thanks for the information. Something new I have learnt (yoda)

He should not have to do that though. Regardless of how long it has been left in standby (or recording) it should still have a fully populated (cached) EPG.

Did your Series Link recordings start very soon after you had done the auto scan for new channels?

I seem to remember that the auto scan clears the EPG (but I can't remember where I've seen this) which then starts repopulating. But then, if it starts recording, the EPG population stops as it can't download the EPG, or at the very least populates very slowly at intervals. The cached EPG will also have very little in its cache. If you looked to schedule Click within this period, that may explain why you saw what you saw.

Just a thought/theory.

Right on the money! After yesterday's worthy addition of Jewellery Channel the EPG was busy re-populating after the scan. There were no ongoing recordings but it seemed mighty slow. Will check to see if its full again tonight and will post back.

The EPG was fully populated but it seems much slower to do that than it used to be. However from what I understand it is still greased lightning compared to $ky. Would it be logical to suggest that the more channels there are the slower the Freesat quide will be to re-populate?

As far as we Hillel's are concerned, the Sky HD EPG simply works. I am aware of no issue whatsoever with it.
(I think that with the new software it is now cached to disk. However, even before that, I never noticed any issue.)

This is not to criticise the Humax box, simply wondering where the above comment came from.

The freesat epg is also cached to disk and is instantly accessible by using the schedule / red button access. Germany calling is referring to the forced loading of a new epg by pressing guide which takes avout 30 sec or so to fully populate but which is usuable for the early part of the 8 days almost instantly. GC I can't say it's noticeably slower as I usually turn the box on prees guide and go and make my morning cuppa and use scedule/red thereafter. It would seem however to be common sense that more data will inevitably increase loading times a little

The issue discussed there is the Anytime Service where Sky push selected programs to the harddisk for viewing at the customers convienence. When you turn the option on it takes a week or so for the service to fully populate.

This is NOT a bug and has nothing whatsoever to do with the EPG.
