Convert to ipod

Hi everyone,

I have a BBC music concert which I recorded and then copied on to a DVD, what I would like to do is to convert and then transfer this 30 minute DVD recording onto my ipod. My ipod is an older version, I believe it is 4th generation, it does not have video, but this is not a problem as I only want the audio. The file extension of the DVD is .vob I need to convert to mp3, the only software I can find on the internet to do a conversion only gives me about 10 minutes conversion time unless I pay for the complete software package and as I do not envisage using it again I am reluctant to pay for this.

My question is, does anyone know of a way I can make this conversion for free or is there another easier and better way for me to obtain the result I am after?

Many thanks in advance

You could extract the audio track from the DVD using let's say DVD Decrypter, you select IFO mode, select the title, enable stream processing and demux the audio. If the format is LPCM you can try to drag&drop the file into itunes (you can try that regardless) and make it convert to a known format (mp3, m4a). There's also a programme called AutoGK that can be used to produce AVI files from VOB files and as a part of the process it will make an audio track in MP3 format that you can import into itunes. You'll point it to the IFO file of your DVD (on DVD media or copied to HDD), select the title, select MP3 format, bitrate 192kbps or more for a good quality) and start the conversion. It first does a few checks, then converts the audio and then goes on with video. You can interrupt the process after audio is done. Somebody may propose a 1-click solution, this is how I would do it.

Thanks for your reply, not too sure I fully understand all that, I was hoping there might just be a way of clicking a button and hey presto the conversion took place, but nothing ever seems that straighfoward.

Sorry, maybe somebody else will post that. I use freeware tools I know they are good, but sometimes it means it's more complicated than just clicking once.
