Perhaps they spent 6 months trying to add really advanced new features and then another six months removing them when they found that they wouldn't work.

gadg, I think it was before the summer when were were told the bad news about the new software being rolled into the development work on iplayer - and the bad news that we would therefore have to wait until iplayer release in the autumn for the software.

I've been following the 'advanced features' side of things very closely, as I would love to access the PVR remotely to set schedules, housekeeping, transfer, stream. But unfortunately, and you probably didn't know, Humax have talked since then about how the development went on advanced features like access to the PVR through the network port, streaming, watching recordings on set top box version remotely from the HDRs hard drive. In developing and testing it was found the platform was't up to producing what we would call acceptible.

However, the ideas haven't been abandoned, and Humax have told me they are making a Foxsat-HDR using a more powerful platform that will allow the kind of wish list features the developers were trying on the HDR earlier in the year.

Lets hope Humax keep thinking about the possibilities and get something out next year that raises the bar, and gets to market something that shows what is possible.

As long as Humax continue to not fix old bugs (even in current products) and just add new ones I cannot recommend their products anyone.

Yes, but I was responding to your post which just mentioned iPlayer.

I'm not worried about new features, anyway. As long as a manufacturer sorts out problems in the feature set the box was advertised as providing that's fine by me.

The one feature I'd really, really, like to see is the ability to set the timers via TCP/IP but as that was not an advertised feature of the box I'm perfectly happy to wait a couple of years until (perhaps) I upgrade the box and see what's available then.

I won't be buying it. A boxful of bugs and a year for a fix - not even Microsoft is that lax.

As for the iPlayer - that's a Freesst-wide function, not a Foxsat one.

Sorry I didn't realise you were having problems. A goodmans or the new sagem may be better at recording than your PVR and worth a look . Plus, I'm sure if you explain to the retailer the machine is still having problems after the bug fix update, they will exchange it for another in case its the box. If the problem is still there in the replacement, then perhaps they can give you one that works from another manufacturer or your money back.

In my view Humax did a brilliant job with the initial release. They have now done most of the things requested and still people complain I just don't understand it.

I have had washing machine for years and that has never been updated!

For heaven's sake, they just sold something that (almost) did what it was supposed to do.

Manufacturers have been doing that for well over a hundred years.

I think they did a fairly reasonable job but fairly reasonable is the very minimum you should expect when spending £300 on a piece of electronics.

My alarm clock does not (start telling the time again that is not finishing the washing ), neither does the clock on the microwave I could go on.

Many RCD's are mains maintained for safety reasons they trip on loss of mains power and need manual resetting.

Well surprise, surprise I found one person who it seems can never be happy!!

I'll admit that the analogies were a bit forced (but then the washing machine analogy was pretty facetious in the first place) but the point was that if you bought a washing machine and under certain circumstances (that could be reasonably forseen to occur from time to time) it would not do the washing you would simply return it (or get it repaired) rather than expecting and waiting for an update.

Tuner 1 is the only one that can be guaranteed to access the home transponder on Eurobird 1 (Not every one has a bog standard two cable installation). For example if using one cable tuner 2 would only have access to the epg if tuner 1 was not using the same polarity and band as the home transponder, and as for two dish or diseqc working the mind boggles

You can always access the buffered epg anyway (Schedule and RED)

I have to agree and I've commentated on this elsewhere. We were promised major new exciting advanced features not seen or planned for the box before. All we got was the much expected and talked about iplayer.

Either this is another let down or there's a part 2 to the update and the update was halfed in size to prevent further delays.

Yeah but did your washing machine forget to wash your clothes after a wash was scheduled?

Did it freeze half way through the wash programme and have to be rebooted?

Did it erase some or all of your clothes as corrupted washing?

Did it only wash your clothes 1/2 as clean by doing an SD wash when a HD one was scheduled?

Did it refuse to do a wash because it was in non normal wash mode and it can't record a wash programme in anything other than normal wash mode (non freesat vs freesat mode)?

The Humax isn't a bad box but it isn't perfect either and people just want to see it fully functional and usable in every feature / respect. not an unreasonable request I think.
