The Humax isn't a bad box but it isn't perfect either and people just want to see it fully functional and usable in every feature / respect. not an unreasonable request I think.
Not unreasonable at all - but...... in the real world we will be lucky if Humax release any more improvements. They have wasted such an opportunity though with this box. It really could have been better. They had a huge advantage being first to market.

Honestly, knowing what I know now...would I have bought a Humax earlier in the year and would I buy another Humax? Well here is a clue, at the moment, the first letter is "N" and last "O". It's Sony or Panasonic for me in the future - maybe in another couple of years I'll look to update.

However, if the machine now does what it is supposed to do better than before, and with no bugs that are more than slight issues, in what it is doing, then that is definitely acceptable to me, at this point.

..... mind you the power cut issue is a biggy ......

Yeah but did your washing machine forget to wash your clothes after a wash was scheduled?

Did it freeze half way through the wash programme and have to be rebooted?

Did it erase some or all of your clothes as corrupted washing?

Did it only wash your clothes 1/2 as clean by doing an SD wash when a HD one was scheduled?

Did it refuse to do a wash because it was in non normal wash mode and it can't record a wash programme in anything other than normal wash mode (non freesat vs freesat mode)?

The Humax isn't a bad box but it isn't perfect either and people just want to see it fully functional and usable in every feature / respect. not an unreasonable request I think.
This was so funny to read I have tears rolling down my cheeks!

Being the old skeptical Granny that I am, makes you wonder if being the ONLY Freesat PVR available didn't have something to do with a lack of updates......just saying

I wonder if you could return it as not fit for purpose. I know I have had it a year but it is an inherent fault that was there from day 1 (and not one that has developed over the past year through use). Thoughts anyone.

That'd be blowing it out of proportion, surely.

People never used to return VHS recorders for the same reason.

It's not been falsely advertised and Humax haven't deceived anyone.

The thing with VHS is that you could only record about 8 hours max (E240 on LP) and most only allowed you to schedule a few recordings. Incidentally I remember reading in the user manuals (at least for a couple of the VHS recorders) that it used to state that the time and scheduled recordings would have to be reset/re-instated if there was an interruption of power (we also had one that could survive a 20 minute power cut and still retain the time and its scheduled recordings). Can't really compare VHS recorders and PVR's.

Later VHS recorders could, indeed, sort themselves out after a power failure.

And I dare say they would have been returned if they had not done so.

In this day and age people expect anything that uses timers that work over a multi-day period to work after an interruption in the Power supply.

Even my central heating controller will set the correct time from a radio signal and maintain all the timers that have been set.
