According to the fix list:-

Resolved issue with Subtitles appearing when use Time Shift Recording.

Just swicthed to BBC News (channel 200) and then skipped back a minute or so and subtitles appear exactly the same as before.

Have they tested this release at all

I just started watching a recording made on BBC HD and it started playing with the subtitles on!

I had to turn them off...

I can't duplicate your subtitle problem here; I had it before the update, but now no amount of pausing, rewinding etc on BBC News (ch.200) doesn't bring up the subtitles.

However, I have seen subtitles appear when playing back recordings of BBC HD. These can be turned off with the subtitles button, though. Still an odd one.

I'm also getting subtitles on when playing recordings made earlier.

Seems though that it is recordings made before the update so hopefully will not happen with new recordings.

I didn't have an issue with subtitles before, now on every recording subtitles. I upgraded the loader and s/w.

Not happy.

Hopefully it's only on recordings made before the update.

If on each recording you go to the menu and turn them off does that work?

Only have recordings before but will investigate, turned off by subs button

It's doing it on mine anyway - just tried it again just to make sure

Right can someone try this:-

1. Switch on the unit and change to BBC News - channel 200.
2. After 30 or so seconds skip back - observe no subtitles appear.
3. Press stop to return to live viewing.
4. After a few seconds skip back again - subtitles now appear (as per the old firmware).

After this point subtitles always appear when time shifting after switching to BBC News.

I've tried the above steps several times and other combinations and can't reproduce the problem. The subtitle function seems to be working ok for me now.

Maybe it's something to do with having to go into the main menu and faff around with switching subtitles on then off or something like that before it takes??

It's weird that it works for some of us and not for others.

Sure is! Followed the steps above, and no subtitles have appeared here.

However, playing back recordings of BBC HD default to subtitles ON. This doesn't seem to affect SD recordings and I don't have a post-update HD recording to check any difference in behaviour.

Also, you still can't switch subtitles on in timeslip mode.

For me at least. I did check out an HD recording made last night. I played it and sure enough subtitles were displaying! Arrrghh.

The solution.
I went into the set up menu and turned ON subtitles - where previously they were OFF.
Turned off machine with the remote.
Turn on machine with remote.
Went into menu again switched OFF subtitles and then when you play HD recordings etc - subtitles then behave as they should - at least for me they did.

Oh..I did also switch off at the mains to recheck it was working properly but I don't think that was necessary.

Yes I have the subtitle issue as well now, while before the firmware upgrade I have only experienced the subtitle issue once. Other than that all seems to work fine so far.

I've tried the sequence of steps, and played HD and SD recordings from before the upgrade. No sub-titles have appeared for me.

Just tried the above and it appears to have fixed the subtitles in TSR issue as well. Suggest those that were agreeing with me (with subtitles appearing on BBC News channel) try the above as well

Even after you've enabled them in the menu, turned the box off and on, disabled them in the menu, and on and off again?

I had never had any issue with subtitles before this update.

Now, every time I press pause on live BBC News (no subtitles) and play to watch it several seconds/minutes later, subtitles appear and cannot be removed. They disappear again when I return to the live broadcast.

I've tried switching on and off, disabling and enabling the subtitles setting, but, so far, to no avail. I will persevere.

Has anyone reported this to Humax Support. If there is a workaround, they need to give clear instructions. Otherwise, the firmware must be corrected.

Looking at these reports, I wonder if it is the way they have fixed the Subs TS bug internally, and if you suffer from the problem, if a Factory Reset is necessary to clear it down and start the software & internal settings afresh?

I can't try this myself, as I don't suffer from the subs problem, and have been unable to replicate it at all.

Could you try it? All you'll lose is your recording schedule which will need to be re-input, and any user settings you may have changed.

Rgds.

Les, Thanks for the suggestion which I've followed.

It worked, but is hardly user friendly. Not only, as you mentioned, do schedules have to be re-input, but also the Humax volume was set to low (I'd forgotten it even existed since it's always set to maximum as my remote controls the TV volume only). Also I suspect that non-freesat will have to be re-scanned and re-sequenced.

It's all a bit of a nuisance as it worked fine before the update. I worry about how non-DS people will manage.

Thanks for reporting back that it worked.

It was a hunch that if they've changed the way subs work internally, and you had used subs before, it may need a re-initialisation of the internal settings.

I had used subs a long time ago, to help out someone on here who had an ITV subs problem, but since then I had Factory Reset my box to set a West Country postcode, and had never used subs since, and I had not been able to replicate the problem.

Thanks for willing to be a guinea pig (and I had forgotten that a reset changes the volume ).

Rgds.
