Those who are suggesting Alexandra Burke..seriously after one album? you can hardly judge someone as best of the century from one release.”

Leona has also only had one album.

Those saying Alexandra Burke have no idea of music!

Whitney
Mariah
Christina
Beyonce
and to a degree Leona, are all examples of great female vocalists. Alexandra Burke is NOT and will NEVER be in the same leaque as them.

Male wise. Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson probably would top the list.

Females - Beyonce, Leona, Christina, Whitney, Aretha, Barbra
Males - Michael Jackson, Sam Cooke, Freddie Mercury, Matt Bellamy and for the future Adam Lambert.

I don't think it's fair to compare Alex to them. She's only had one album. But tbf, The Silence is actually one of the best songs (vocally) that I've heard recently. Ballad-wise, Beyonce doesn't impress me. None of her songs are as vocally challenging as The Silence.

Imo, Whitney and Mariah are head and shoulders ahead of everyone. But this century (2000 onwards), Christina has proved what an excellent vocalist she is and deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as them.

Leona, Beyonce and Alexandra still have a long journey ahead of them, imo.

That name means nothing to me, I'm afraid ( My first thought was the actress who used to be in the Carry On films ) - and I am at work now with no sound on my computer - will listen to that when I get home though.

Neil Diamond.

My OH is a fan of his so I've listened to his music even though it's not my cup of tea.

A couple of months ago I saw a concert of his on tv and he sounds exactly the same live as he does on his records. He has an amazing voice!

Elisabeth Fraser.............as of the cocteau twins fame. Very natural voice, especially the tracks she did with Peter gabriel and Paul Buchanan

completely agree...
for me, because she came after Leona, she had alot to live up to and I found myself always comparing her voice to Leona's and Leona came out tops everytime.

I think she's a great singer, I don't think she's a great vocalist.

I think Beverly Knight is my favourite singer, but I think Christina is a much better vocalist and Leona has a better voice.

Have a look for Song to the Siren. If that doesn't impress you nothing will.

Female - Beyoncé - She is the only artist in the past, let's say, 5 years, who has created such a level of hype and respect.

Male - Michael Bublé - We have many male artists who are very 'here today, gone tomorrow,' but Michael Bublé's type of music is a genre that has been popular for probably around 60 years now, and probably will be for at least another 60 years.

Gosh yes - I see what you mean. Very impressive. I still prefer Lisa Gerrard, personally, but I do agree that she has an amazing voice.

I did try to watch the vids that Rossall linked earlier too, but for some reason they wouldn't play for me
