Saw Lisa Gerrard sing with Klaus Schulze in Amsterdam a few months ago. She was rather good.

Regina Spektor is a seriously underrated vocalist.

Adam Lambert - According to one of his producers, he can sing every note on a guitar

Grace Jones. She's still got what she had in the last century.

For males, Thom Yorke, Matt Bellamy, Bruce Dickinson (he's no dinosaur, he still sings better in his 50's than most singers do in their entire life), Roy Khan (no one will know this guy, but despite the genre of music he sings he's bloody good). Honorable mention to Brandon Flowers and Eddie Vedder. Adam Lambert's pretty good as well.

Michael Buble, Will Young and James Morrison are such boring choices IMO, plus they send me straight to sleep.

Male: Finn Andrews (The Veils) & Greg Gilbert (Delays)

Female: Seconding Liz Fraser OF COURSE, but also gotta give mentions to Natasha Khan (Bat For Lashes) & Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond/The Decemberists)

Hi,

I guess it depends on category you're talking about. There's such a wide range of singing styles and often you can't compare across the board.

If you're talking about power, you can't go past Australian Mirusia Louverse. Absolutely INCREDIBLE! Here's a link to her singing 'Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again. It'll blow your mind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Mpo_RbX46I

If you want that delicate, high angelic voice, I'd say Hayley Westenra. She never makes mistakes and is wonderful. Scarborough Fair: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_45W-Lq7ftw

As for rock/pop, my first nomination would be Elvis -- but that was last century. lol With rock and pop it's often less about technical perfection but creativity and expression -- why you sometimes can't compare them to Classical singers.

I nominate Tim Freedman, lead singer of The Whitlams -- incredible live and after that I'd say Rob Thomas. Great sounding voices, creative and expressive.

For the women I'd say Leona Lewis and Kate Bush.
For the men,it has to be Till Lindemann and James Hetfield.

For me, it's Hayley Westenra.

Not sure if the likes of Christina, Beyonce etc can hit the notes from 3:23 onwards.

Auto tune! Because thats what the majority of talentless hacks courtesy of Psyco and Cowell use! Haha I just love some of the suggestions!

If the century in question is the current one then Bat For Lashes, Florence and the Machine, Elly Jackson to name a few. But the best from the last Kate Bush without a doubt, if some of the modern day artists could do half the things she did the music industry would be a better place!

Yay. The Dreaming (album) in particular. Very few could make sense of it back then but it's now hailed as a masterpiece

Florence for the ladies and Richard Ashcroft for the gentlemen.

Ooh, what a lovely voice (Mirusia) Not my thing whatsoever, but she sounds lovely

I'm not knowledgeable enough to express a firm opinion.

However, Sarah McLachlan, Loreena McKennitt and Leona Lewis are just three technically-gifted singers whom I connect with.
