Fed up of keep banging on about the power cut bug (sorry if I am annoying you all) so I thought I would e-mail Humax support and see whether they are planning on releasing another update to fix this major bug.

Sent it last Thursday and had no reply as of yet. Will update here when/or if I do get a reply.

Still no reply from the mail I sent on the 26th November. If not a specific reply to my problem an acknowledgment reply stating I would expect a further mail from them at some point would have been nice - not what I expect from a professional company.

Have you had emails from them before?

If not, your ISP addresses might be one of the unfortunate ones that Humax's SPAM filter grabs. It's been stated a number of times on here that Humax seem to have over aggressive filters on Spam.

I have to admit that if I need to find out something important, I give them a ring; and I've never had to hang on for hours like some people suggest..

It was sent out to them using a blueyonder.co.uk address however as I have my own domain the visible address (as apposed to the proper blueyonder one) would have been the one that was visible (don't think this should make any difference).

Do you have a list of problematic addresses anywhere?

The Humax support team answers nearly every mail they receive in under 48h, the most common form of failure is the spam filters.

We are actually looking at a new customer contact management system for this which should help a lot and a different server to ensure we can manage the filters better, but it needs a great deal more testing before it is let loose because it needs to take full control of all support emails.

I have just re-sent the original query again this time using a hotmail address. Fingers crossed this gets through.

Bob_Cat - have Humax thought of implementing an online submission form instead? Surely that would be the best way to cut down on the spam.

With the announcement of the HDR 2 I hope that means they aren't going to leave original HDR owners high and dry with a unit that still has a major issue.

However if Humax are reading this I will gladly put up with the power cut issue on the HDR for another few months if you were to send me a replacment HDR 2 free of charge when they are released (you can even have the original HDR back). Worth a try I suppose

Just a thought - having had a power cut this weekend!!

If I bought a One for all 12 or similar and programmed it to turn the Foxsat 'on' at say 04:30, and then 'off' at 04:35 would that solve the issue? i.e. I could still lose the previous day's scheduled recordings but if I am away for 2 weeks I won't lose the rest.

£30.00 seems a bit pricey for this type of fix, but if you think it would work, are there any cheaper programmable remotes with a timer function?

I just tried turned off the power with the hdr in sby waited for the red led to go out. Restored the power, tried to wake up the hdr with the remote - no dice only pushing the front on button manually worked for me. Try it yourself to make sure

It wasn't me who rushed in to turn the box on last night, (we had been told there had been a power cut the night before and this was proven as the Christmas light timer was out by 3 hours)!

It WAS turned on by the remote - so some more testing required!

If the box is on or in recording sby when the power cut ocurred there is no problem. It's only if the stb is in full sby that the clock stops preventing further recording.

OK, thanks Graham. I'm not sure if the box was in standby or not when I left for the weekend. But It wasn't recording XF when we came in. But it does go into auto standby every night and it would have done before the power cut. On verra!

Can't try it out again at the moment (Err indoors will skin me alive in the middle of corrie ). I will repeat the test tommorow.

Remember the box wakes itself up in the middle of the night to carry out housekeeping duties. If the power cut coincided with that then it would explain what happened to you

Nice to see some constructive comments and attempts to try and workaround the problem. Incidentally still no reply from Humax. Bob_Cat - any chance you can chase it up to see if they are getting my e-mails (PM me if you want to discuss off board).

Incidentally I'm going away over Xmas and the New Year and ever since the last firmware update I have set the HDR to switch off at 2:55 AM and on at 3:20 AM with the Power On channel set to Teletext (channel 986). This is a slight variation on my last attempt which was 3 or so months ago when it locked up after 10 days. So far so good and it does have the advantage that the HDR is on and ready when I get in and I no longer have to wait for the freesat scan when new channels are added.

Now I have got so used to it being on and ready for action straight away that when (ahem) Humax get round to fixing the bug I'll probably use the auto power on feature to switch it on at 6PM so when I get back from work its all powered up and ready.

It works . Turned off the power this morning left it off for 10 mins. Turned it back on again, display lights for about 20 sec and then goes back to just showing the red led. The remote power button booted the foxsat. Brill idea but all you need to do is programme a remote device to turn on the hdr and back off again say a few times a day to pick up any power cuts. You would have to choose times when you know the box won't be recording as the on/offs could get out of sync (power on/off is toggle and not a pair of commands). What's more you could use such a device to achieve timed non-freesat recordings.

Reccomendations for a suitable remote please

Finding a suitable remote is not going to be easy. There used to be such a device that allowed a remote to change channels and start and stop recordings on a vcr. Not seen one for years though
