It would seem as always that central europe always gets the best offerings when it comes to electronic boxes and the like ,have a look at the spec on this box.

Funny thing is the whole unit looks similar, and I'd guess the main board is the same. So potentially the HDR could be updated to run similar firmware.

Based on what has been said previously, I'd speculate that it is different architecture to the HDR. Also, Bob_Cat has said there will be no more features releases, only maintenance.

But, perhaps the new UK box would have some of those features?

It doesn't have a freesat epg.

The HD+ uses the next generation of chipset, but don't worry about the UK being behind, we are already looking ahead in our long term planning to see if we can leapfrog our colleagues to even better chips in future.

The HD+ is really quite a nice box for our German colleagues but I think we can do better.

The icord hdr + is identical to the freesat hdr on the connection side of things and uses the same case.
what's the difference inside from the freesat hdr apart from the hard drive.?

I am looking at moving from sky to freesat but am holding back for the 2nd gen of freesat+hd boxes....something new by spring 2010 maybe?

Yes he said that ,but I want to know what chipset and ram it uses.so we will know what we are buying in the future.
Why can't the HDR have FTP as the software has already been written for for the dutch model , the humax ihdr 5050 cable version , if it can handle BBC iplayer then it can use ftp.

To paraphrase whats been said by Bob before on FTP, the HDR can do it but they had a few performance issues and have not been able to justify the effort to iron them out on the HDR. I take performance issues to mean problems when box is busy recording HD channels etc if you FTP at the same time. Really really disappointing it could not be added in a secret menu at least for those who can be prudent with what we ask the box to do in parallel.

As I said it is capable , if you are going to transfer data to your pc then its a small price to pay to be able to store or burn recordings etc.

Even if FTP was disabled during recording, or if it limited recording to a single channel, whatever the restriction they placed upon it, having FTP would be worth the restriction. Even my little network router does FTP !

The more I think about it the more I think that the reason is that they want to reserve the feature for the forthcoming HDR big brother product.

What more can I say totally correct,if my silly little phone can talk to my pc so can this box with no problems .As well as being a reserve feature for the next box , I believe this is more of a money issue rather than a technical one , as always.

This old box seems more up to date than hdr spec we have been given and it was called the iplayer hows that then.
