That's because the BBC have it on a different Series CRID now, so the box can't recognise the AI.

Recorded Programmes are OK, yes.

But you will need to reset your recording schedule, any user settings you may have changed, and it will reset volume to 50%.

Iomega make a nice drive, especially the smaller 2.5" format...

http://go.iomega.com/en/products/ext.../?partner=4735

Those are particularly nicely presented in a sturdy case. I have the 320GB one (formatted EXT3) but they do a 500 now... I wouldn't have thought it would be long before they come out with a 1TB one...

I have the whole year's F1 series off of the BBC plus some other Astronomy stuff archived onto mine and I'm still only at 49% full on my 320...

There are quite a few utilities about that will read an EXT3 drive under Windows. This is the main one http://www.ext2fsd.com/ that works very well and it's Open Source. The easiest and quickest way to format the drive to EXT3 is actually under Linux and you can load and run a copy of Ubuntu from a USB key to do that...

Thanks Alan & Les. I may do a factory reset tomorrow to be sure all software changes have taken effect.

Yes, I've been looking at this, and it looks like they've changed lots of Series CRIDs for some reason.

But, I haven't been keeping a daily record, so I don't know whether they've changed the BBC1/2 CRIDs or the BBC HD CRIDs.

I guess we'll find out tomorrow when people report failed recordings

I always schedule from 108 BBC HD, so I'm hoping it's not those that have changed. I suppose I could go in an reschedule them, but I think I'll leave and see what happens. I've just got Around the World in 80 Days tonight on BBC HD.

Rgds.

Les I have tonights Horizon in HD (not simulcast SD/HD) on series record (not set today though) as well As Around The World both appear to be fine in the schedule.

So what are we saying here Les? Do we actually need to do a factory reset to resolve this issue? (on updated boxes) Or is this purely an EPG issue?

Hi Colin,

It's an EPG issue, although I'm making a leap in my assumptions.

To be able to offer the HD instance of an SD programme (where available), and also to show it in the Info when you press "i" on the SD version in the EPG, the programmes need to have the same CRID Data.

This week, it looks like the BBC may have changed CRIDs on SD/HD versions to make them separate (if they weren't separate previously - I don't know as I don't track the CRID data on a daily basis; I'm not quite that sad).

If they have changed either the SD or HD CRIDs, then it is possible that whichever changed will not record depending on when the timer was set up.

Rgds.

Right. I get it now. Easiest (sure) fix I guess would be to delete and re-programme any existing ones just to make certain...

Hi Graham,

Yes but see my post above to Colin.

It depends, I may be scaremongering, those programmes may always have been seperate Series, if so they'll be OK.

If not, and they've changed, a couple of things could happen. I'M ONLY TALKING ABOUT AR, HERE

The most likely is that the BBC will send the right Event ID in the EITp/f table as that should not change during the life of the programme (according to the specs that are publicly available), and the programme will record OK, but the Timer will fail to move on.

It all depends on whether they have changed any CRIDs, and if they did, when did they change them relative to when you (or the Series Link feature) set up the Timer.

Could be something & nothing, if these particular progs have always been seperate, but we'll see.

Rgds.

Just been reviewing what I typed, and can't believe I got it the wrong way round (it's been a long day on 3 BBs ).

It's the Prog CRID that determines whether to offer the AI, not the Series CRID. The BBC have been messing around with the Prog CRIDs, there are some that should be the same that are different, and no AI is offered as a result, there are some with the same Prog CRIDs, and AI is correctly shown here.

As it's not Series CRIDs that are mucked up, recordings will be OK even if the Prog CRID is different, as the BBC will send the correct Event_ID to start the AR (as this does not change), and the SL will find the correct prog next week.

Apologies for the scare - but the BBC have still cocked up!!

Rgds.

Thanks Colin,

Looks like Omega do a 1TB drive (available at PC world), but from a different range to the one you suggested.

Do they need to have a particular specification (min spin speed or anything)?

Once formatted to EXT3 is it simply a case of plug and play with the Foxsat HDR?

Having looked through the Iomega (the I is important, different brand from the Omega at PCWorld I think) range, they don't do a 2.5" (small) drive at 1TB at the moment. The significance of that is that most 3.5" USB drives require a mains adaptor and can't just be run on the USB interface alone while 2.5" drives can. This is how I run mine connected to the HDR (one cable)

Well, I'll leave others to comment on that but the one I use only has a spin speed of 5400rpm (low for an HDD) and an 8MB cache and it runs fine even with HD programs...

Yes. Simple as that.

Thanks Colin,

The tip about the 2.5"drive is really useful. Sounds as though most HDDs should fit the bill once fomatted. I'm hoping that a neighbour (who I think works in IT) might be able to help with that if I get stuck - then all being well I'll be on my way.

Thanks again for your help

Hi GC,

I've had a quick sample today, and the BBC1 progs that I looked at that have instances on BBC HD have the same Prog CRIDs so HD AI is offered, and it shows in the Info.

But, The Restaurant tomorrow & Strictly on Saturday are still different, so not offered nor show in Info.

So, they haven't got it right, yet.

Rgds.

Thanks Les, just had a quick look myself and I have to say before the update I never got the alternate starts for HD on the info screen, although I did get the HD symbol on the iplate below it and of course it would always offer the HD choice when selected. It must have been a strange quirk related to my box.

Volume adjustment through optical out to an amp!

Sorry, but have lived with this for a while. The family does like it. Having to press 'audio', adjust volume, then to change channels, press 'pvr' and so forth.

Considering that changes in volume happens more than I ever realised due to louder adverts etc. this is a pain in the arse!

Due to small amount of HD programmes, having to do this procedure in the old days was just about ok to live with but I have today turned the amp off. Sound back through the telly, just to maintain diplomatic relations in the household.

Not happy!

Before the upgrade you could use the volume control to set SD mpeg sound to the same level as DD sound so there was no volume change. Sadly you can't now do this

My very first posting.. as I have just bought a new Humax HDR at the weekend..
I read all the Forum posts and saw how helpful advice was interchanged here..
I read the manual before i contemplated connecting power t
o the set..
I used a well tried single feed from the Dish and used a Pc monitor to view the pictures HDMI..
I switched on the mains power at the wall and then the switch on the back of set..
red light came on..
Then switched on at the front of set..Blue light came on
BUT I never got round to loking at the screen as
an awful.. but thankfully quiet noise.. came from the set..
just like a donkey.."HEE HAw..HeeHaw" ..
it went on and on..
Obviously i switched off at the set front..
Light went to red but noise continued.
Switched off at back of set
and the noise continued at same level
Switched of at wall and pulled mains plug from socket
the noise continued as the red light faded for some 10 seconds i guess...
I was powerless to stop it ..
Today rang Argos and they say no problems return and get anew one ...
but they have never heard of such a happening before..
I also phoned Humax technical this morning..
very polite but they said that they too had never heard of such a happening either..
As i asked at the start..
Am i going bonkers?..
but as none else has said I am..and
As everyone seems to knowledgable ..i am wondering..
Before the hassle of returning to Argos ..
shall i have another go at powering up as nothing to lose??
BUt if it then works a treat..does this forecast future problems Please?

There's only two moving parts the fan which only runs when it's needed and the hdd. Sounds as if your drive is faulty. Don't forget you need the short link cable if only using 1 connection
